Fred's First Foray; a 109G6 **Failed**

With a HobbyBoss Messerschmitt 109G6;



Very odd parts supply in this kit; 3 sets of main wheels, a tail wheel moulded to the fuselage but two different ones also supplied. The fuselage is G2 type so the cowl bulges are supplied as separate parts. There is a closed and open option for the canopy. With a small amount of work I reckon this could be made into versions from an F-2 to a midproduction G6.
I intend to use the Airfix 109G6 Finnish Air Force decals on this.

Start date to be decided yet.

Looking good Fred. I build the Hurricane a while back and was impressed with the kit layout. Good luck and will be watching.

Started at 01.00 Sunday 2nd;
First job was to cut from the sprues the parts not required;


After just over an hour;

Main airframe all together and with a coat of RLM65 on the underneath and along the fuselage sides. Wheels, prop, spinner and exhausts have an undercoat of matt black.
A deviation from the instructions; the exhausts are supplied as an H part, to be sandwiched between the fuselage halves. I've not put them in as I can paint them and fit them later, and I can paint the fuselage and not worry about getting paint on them.

Started again at 14:15.
A first coat of Humbrol 163 dark green enamel is on. When thats dry this build will speed up as I can use acrylics over that.

A bit more done; an instrument panel and seat belts before the closed canopy went on;


A second coat of dark green;


Then the camo black;


The black needs a bit of sanding down once its fully dry.

I don't think I'm going to finish this within the 24 hours. I'm fairly fatigued now. I'll probably get it finished tomorrow afternoon.

You have to 1:00PM local time Monday so hang in there. That is if your clock is corrent. No problem with two 12 hour blocks within that 24 hour time frame.

Although this missed the 24 hour target I continued with it.
The black paint needed rubbed down almost completely then it got a couple of fresh smooth coats on;


I had some spare time during last night so it got glossed up, decaled and matt varnished;

There is no such thing as a blitzbau failure. It's the taking part that counts. And the refreshments, food, and truly bizarre clocks that we often see, that really count.

As Flak states, there is no failure in a blitz. Good job.

Really good looking Gustav.

You have to watch that Blitz fatigue. It sneaks up on you. two 12 hours sessions are better as you can get some rest and allow paint to dry etc.
