Re: Flakmonkey's totally over ambitious whiffery
I think I'm just going to leave this here. There is very, very, little one can usefully add to this audio/ visual feast.
Would ya like to learn to fly? Would ya? Would you like to see me try?

If you want real beer don't look for it in Utah. We have some of the strangest liquor laws in the world.
But then again, I don't drink (hardly) and never acquired the taste for beer so not hurting in that sense. Went to school in Montana and the only beer I ever had while there that didn't taste like crap was Moosehead, a Canadian beer.

Flak, to kill time on your flight, check out Mike (Migrant)'s blitz of a bloody blinking Amodel nightmare. I stare, rapt, at the final photos for hours.
Is this your sanderling?.

Re: Flakmonkey's totally over ambitious whiffery
Ok well I'm back to find that Ginger Daughter has bought an MG. The shame. The abject shame.
MG never made a good car**. Ever. The MGB GT V8 was as close as they ever got and that was rubbish. The RV-8 was even worse despite having the best part of 30 years' of technological and engineering advances to help it along. Every single day of which, it would seem, were heartily ignored by those entrusted to "engineer" this monstrosity.
The MG for which Ginger Daughter just paid the price of a very nice meal for four is… well, it's even worse than any of that. No like really it's much worse. It's some half hearted attempt at a mid engined car. With a lawnmower engine as some kind of token gesture towards motive force. Only this… this… THING has slightly less power than most lawnmowers, and it seems even more reluctant to start than said garden implement. And (starting a sentence with a preposition, such is the force of my ire) this pig from design hell has a chassis from a baby buggy. Styling by Stevie Wonder.
Is it possible to divorce one's own child?
**footnote: The 1275cc Midget was actually quite good despite having less power than a food mixer (and the 1500 was even less powerful in real terms), but it was stolen from Donald Healey's original Sprite design and so isn't really an MG at all.

I was told that women and jeans are illegal in Utah. That may have been apocryphal.philp wrote:If you want real beer don't look for it in Utah.

Ah, but times change.
Latest I heard less than half the population here is now LDS.
I see plenty of ladies in jeans.

Far be it from me to get into a discussion about how the MGC is actually a rather better car than people seem to think (though currently not available for the price of a nice meal for four, even at the Manoir...), Instead, I'll add this to the playlist:

I had just moved to Utah 2 years before this movie came out and I still think that was one of the funniest lines.flakmonkey wrote:Which reminds me of Star Trek IV…philp wrote: Latest I heard less than half the population here is now LDS.

Re: Flakmonkey's totally over ambitious whiffery
Oops. Did not finish.
Well ok, did not start. You see, the Tall Vegetarian Wife decided that it was high time the top end of the garden that nobody ever dare venture into was cleared. Mammoth task.
Not only have I cleared the entire world's supply of brambles and ivy with roots like a grown mans arm, I dug out all of the sundry building materials and general garbage that had been left behind by the previous owner of the house. Whom, should I ever meet him in a dark alley, is living on borrowed time. He has almost killed me several times with his DIY attempts at electrical wiring. 30amp wiring tucked behind skirting board (baseboard) with no steel capping, anybody? I can tell you now that makes you jump when you nonchalantly take your nailgun to it when you want to secure a loose board. It's usually the nailgun that makes the biggest bang…
Here's some of the things I found which now somehow need to be disposed of:
And then there was the complete set of genuine Victorian cast iron bath feet which I have just sold on ebay on a Buy-it-now for £25. Perks of the job.
I shall build this thing as a blitz in an unofficial way, sometime over the next few weeks. Which gives me chance to actually buy some modelling materials too.

Wow Flak. A busy boy. TVW has questionable timing however. February and August always reserved for self. Trusting she does not read this.
To bad there was not a bathtub for those feet. Big money.

We have one of those tubs. TVW was like "maybe we could…"
At which point, I left the room and cut off all forms of communication.

Perhaps this might not be the best thread in which to mention that I own an MGF then?

Re: Flakmonkey's totally over ambitious whiffery
Well ok. But Donald Healey did a much better job of a car using exactly the same lorry engine. Although I doubt you would get a good one of those these days for anything like the price of a rather nice house. But I still really, really, want one. Always have. Maybe a TR6 would be an acceptable substitute. They're still (barely) affordable.mattbacon wrote:Far be it from me to get into a discussion about how the MGC is actually a rather better car than people seem to think (though currently not available for the price of a nice meal for four, even at the Manoir...),
