Three Is A Magic Number.. **DNF**

Post by Arcwelder »

.. as De La Soul told us way back when. So, for Blitz #3, I'm going to triple the wings.

Image

Ancient moulding. Flash. Delicate structure. Pilot figure. Rigging. Perfect for panic building, right?

Right. Starts in an hour.

As we get underway, here's the bits and bobs

Two sprues of tired beige styrene.

I know these Revell WWI kits of old, and have much fondness for them. But boy oh boy are they past their sell-by-date.
Aussie Ace Bob Little, here immortalized in a crude blob of plastic.

Nice decals, as ever with revell. Seatbelts and all!

Something tells me that cleaning up parts is going to take a goodly chunk of the first hour

I agree wholeheartedly with Phoebe! :ha:

But good luck with it! The rigging is minimal so that's at least one mercy.

This is very true, and one of the reasons I picked the little sod to blitz. However, there is a potential problem ahead: the wires pass through the middle wing in one fell swoop.. going to have to do some dry fitting and fiddling to figure out where to drill the holes...

Phoebe is right. This old Revell Triplane is something of a left field (i.e. bonkers) choice what with its three wings and awkward rigging. Elements which help make for a great blitz, so I'm told :ha: Best of luck.

OK, slight interlude while I went to the Offie/Takeaway for sustenance of one kind and another.

Clock (finally!)
Also some bits of styrene with paint on them, sort of off to the right hand side and out of focus in the background.

Bits are dry enough to start assembly, so next update will be more fun.

To keep the pulse going as we enter the late evening, it's Township Funk all the way

I am in full support of everything presented here....especially the S&C squid! (...ok, maybe not so much the generic lager :ha: )

With the rigging, I had to give up on through-wing in the end. The alignment of the kit just wasn't good enough to allow a pre-drilled hole. I just went with the best I could manage lining up an attachment point on the top and bottom of the middle wing.

Yeah, I'm anticipating similar.. won't be the end of the world, especially in this scale (and that's some slick looking builds there, BTW!)

For sure, Jeff.. we're onto Vol 2 now

Anyway, progress...

First thing attached to another thing!! :party

I call this one "Man On Wing"

Hadn't seen this icon in Revell instructions before

Turns out it means this:

Image

Do they know who they're dealing with here? Are they aware of the pressure I'm under? Do they realise just how much horror I'm willing to ignore provided I can't easily see it?

Anyway, as will doubtlessly delight Flak, it's starting to look like a plane. Sort of.

And I remembered the clock!

Having given the rigging issue some thought, I'm prepping for VV's method of rigging in two parts. Therefore, I've drilled through the top wing (the roundel decal will help to cover any damage) because 1) as VV says in his build thread, you need to be an actual octopus to do the stretchy elastic method and b) my stretchy elastic is much thicker than the monofilament I'll ise for the rest.

The plan, for now, is to get it built more or less to completion tonight, go to work till 2pm tomorrow and have five hours to rig and decal.

Back to it!

You're mad tackling a Tripe for a Blitz. It has the most complicated rigging.
I'm a coward, I'd do a Dr1, now that has minimal rigging
Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.
