Pirate Arrrrado 196.. **FINISHED**
I'm sorry for the horrible pun, but someone had to say it before Flak does :fr.
Anyway, after the failure of the Tripehound, I'm getting back in the saddle with the good old Airfix kit. However, paint scheme will be the all-over metal finish with hooky French markings of the Hilfskreuzer auxilary raiders. I'll try to vary the aluminium colours to differentiate between the metal and fabric parts.
Underway shortly..

Cheers, Jeff...
Herer's some sprue etc..
And the clock is on...
A pile of bits, many of which were already detached in the box for my comfort and convenience
That highly-detailed interior..
And finally, an engine. I'm a big fan of Citadel paints for wood, metal etc. This is a new one I got today, "Leadbelcher". It's more of an iron colour, but I thought I'd get a peek at how it looks fo future reference. I like it.
Russian Circles for a typically frantic start

One hour in.. the internal parts are drying away, detail painting on the pilots and some sub-assembly..
Wings and floats. Floats and wings. The sprue attachment point is left on for now to provide strength (Ive broken struts on this model in the past!)
The Amps...

Re: Pirate Arrrrado 196.. **IN PROGRESS**
Two hours....
Here's the chaos of the workbench with clock
Fuselage fit is not too bad at all (dry fitted for now)
Engine ready to be popped in
Tailplane with horrible flap
IP decal with the old Decalfix doing its thing
Initial rattlecan blast of Metalcote Aluminium on the floats.
That's it for the moment: I was meant to be painting my GF's decking and house today rather than tormenting styrene. Weather is against it, but there's some holes in her walls that I'd better fill (behave yourselves!) so I'll be away for an hour or so.

Re: Pirate Arrrrado 196.. **IN PROGRESS**
Great progress and like the musical interludes. Looks like a fresh decal sheet which is a plus. Almost hate to say it now but did you put weight in the tips of the floats/pontoons? Seems I remembered it to be a tail setter. But you can still add to the nose area.

D'oh.. forgot about that, Jeff!! IIRC, it only tilted back a bit last time I made it, about 1000 years ago!. Liquid gravity to the rescue!!

Re: Pirate Arrrrado 196.. **IN PROGRESS**
Thanks to Jeff for the save there.. HOWEVER: remember, before pouring very, very liquid CA into an area, ensure there's nowhere for it to leak out and completely cover your hands. BRB, removing tiny granules of LG and various bits of decal film and sprue from my skin.

Man, we could use a new 196 kit. I admire you for taking that on in a Blitz.

Re: Pirate Arrrrado 196.. **IN PROGRESS**
Checking in, post a lot of swearing. There's enough liquid gravity in the engine cowl to keep it forward for sure, but, sadly, slightly too much so the cowl sits a wee bit further forward than it should. So it goes.
Coat of paint on to highlight any issues. I should really have taken a photo before masking the cockpit.

Thank you.. it's not that horrible a kit but it's very basic and, yes, badly in need of an update.dknights wrote:Man, we could use a new 196 kit. I admire you for taking that on in a Blitz.

That finish looks really good. Agreeing with Mr. Knights it is in dire need of re-tooling.
Making great progress still. Must be time for some Blitz Food.

I have fond memories of this old kit having built it back in the 60's
It's looking good in silver keep up the great work.
