Yakity Yak: Migrant's Amodel 1/72 Yak-18 *FINISHED*
After my epic failure to complete a simple Airfix Mustang in the last BB, it's time for redemption. Choosing an Amodel kit is probably not the easiest way to go about it, but it's a small model with a simple scheme so I'll give it a go. This kit's been loitering in my stash for years, so this seems like an ideal opportunity to bring it out of the closet.
Apologies for the boring time-piece. Start time 11.45am MST.

Progress so far. The P-51D failed because I spent way too much time detailing /painting the cockpit. As you can see from my slapdash efforts here, I have no intention of falling into that trap again. Fuselage stringers are strips of sellotape painted dark grey, seat belts are masking tape painted brown. No need to worry; the canopy looks like it's been hewn out of soap, only less clear.

Thanks Jeff and Marky!
Quick break for lunch: Thai Tomato Coconut soup.
Not saying this is a poor fitting kit or anything.

Nothing a belt sander won't take care of Mike. Nice Blitz lunch.

Now I remember the reason this kit has been in the stash for so long... Here's the view of the nose underside. Those sink marks are almost as deep as the wheel wells.
There's a 2mm gap between the wing and the fuselage on the port side.

An Amodel kit in a blitz. You're either brave, insane or both! Good luck!
Is this your sanderling?.

1816. Bodywork's mostly done, next step is to mask the canopy.

2137, and I'm going to call it a day while the gloss coat dries overnight, hopefully leaving me time to decal tomorrow a.m. Still a few bits and pieces to do (the ski undercarriage might be a bit tricky) but it should be do-able, if a little tight.
