Great work so far. Place mats and drink coasters too, very civilised.

I was half expecting to see the meals photographed glossy magazine style too

That is actually not far off the truth... Thanks for the comments, guys.Arcwelder wrote:Nearly 5AM MST.. Migrant twitches in his sleep, murmuring about gaps and sanding...
So, day 2, 0647. Breakfast – instant porridge and a mug of coffee – doesn't even warrant a photo, so it's on to the Yak. The Klear appears to be dry, so I'll attempt to apply the decals. Having never used Amodel decals, I'm somewhat dubious about their quality.

Good morning Migrant. On board and watching as I prepare for a weekend get-away.

In a word, heinous. If memory serves they are super fragile and have a tendency to disintegrate on contact with water.Having never used Amodel decals, I'm somewhat dubious about their quality.

Morning Jeff!
0818. Now to deal with the small bits while the decals (hopefully) settle; prop, exhausts, undercarriage etc.
I should probably have waited and read your response before I started decalling. Having said that, I do have them all on, but as Arcwelder predicted, it was something of a battle. They're very stiff and brittle, so I put a puddle of wet Klear down before applying each marking and hopefully that will suck them onto the surface and prevent any silvering. I added a few bogus bits of stenciling too to liven it up a bit.Arcwelder wrote:In a word, heinous. This is one of the most impressive Blitz builds I've seen. The work on this ill-fitting model is amazing. It would have taken me, at least, 24 hours to correct that mess on the bottom of the fuselage alone. Combined with the top-notch photography. Awesome work!

That'll stunning work Mike.
I can't believe it's the Amodel kit. Mine has been in and out of the stash a few times too.

Admit it: you sneakily replaced it with the 1/32 Trumpeter kit in the night and mocked up a giant watch to keep it in scale...I can't believe it's the Amodel kit.
(which I'd actually rather do than work on those gaps and sinkholes)

The puddle treatment works for me every time. However, while dry to the touch, handling must be a minimum to avoid smearing. And in the impatience of completing a blitzbau on time, it is a battle for sure.

Re: Yakity Yak: Migrant's Amodel 1/72 Yak-18
Thanks for the kind words guys, but seriously, this thing is a . It might look OK in a 800pixel image shot from 10 feet with a telephoto lens, but it's nasty up close. Hopefully a flat coat will hide some of its shortcomings.
0904 Prop and exhausts are painted, and I've just attached the tail struts. The various undercarriage components are also assembled and painted, but I don't want to attach those until right at the end 'cos they're pretty flimsy. In fact there's not much I can do in the next hour except wait for the decals to dry out

Looking nice and clean Mike. I always enjoy watching you work. But - no music? Is silence the key to your concentration and great results?
