My representative tin?!....or am I just reading that in a Glasgow accent? :ha:
Surely that would be Mah - repreesentatuve - tun, approximately. :ha:

No, silly, the second 'R'!

BTW, I am now happy with the seams on the Hellcat. it has therefore had its final scoosh of white primer, a quick polish, and a single thin brushed coat of Revell Aqua Weiss where the invasion stripes will go.

I'll let that dry, get the stripes masked off and black ones painted tonight.*

regards,

Martin

Ah! I thought it was just your way of abbreviating 'representative' to avoid the double glottal stop ( and the subsequent risk of triggering a hyperventilaing attack) :ha:

Oh poo! I was just about to exclaim triumphantly that I had finally masked up the Hellcat invasion stripes when I realised that I'd got the wrong dimensions. I should have known something was wrong, as the dimensions looked 'off' even to my eye and didn't fit too well on the aircraft. So, that's an hour and a half of my life down the drain . . . repeat after me, an 18" stripe in 1/48th scale is 9.375mm (Ok, 9.5mm for cash) wide NOT 11mm.

Hmmmm! Could I claim 11mm wide is a 'representative' width . . . ?

Well, I decided I couldn't and went for 10mm dead on the grounds that I can't measure to less than a mil. Finally got the first coat of night black on tonight. Unfortunately, I'm off on holiday for a few days, so no more 'til I get back:

Now back with internet connection. I hope to get the painting finished by the end of the GB.

Invasion stripes finished and masked. Silver misted on round the leading edges. I'll apply some Maskol and then get onto the undersides and red cowling ring.

OK, so after the Aluminium spray (not silver, as I said above), I brush painted on some thin zinc chromate, then dotted on some maskol, which I will scrape off once the paint job is finished to simulate chipping. The topside looks a dogs breakfast. Here it is:

Image

The undersides have had 3 coats of Xtracrylix Sky and looks a little better. The wing roots and belly will need another couple of coats, though:

Tomorrow, I plan to finish off the Sky, then mask and paint the cowling red and maybe start some of the topside colours.

Some more painting progress. Sky underside now finished to my satisfaction. Have given a couple of coats of gloss red to the cowling ring, and started painting the Dark Slate Grey. This needs a couple of more coats (and of course removing the cowling masking) before its finished.

I have also primed the undercarriage components. I plan to finish the DSG (apart from the cowling) tonight, then onto the EDSG tomorrow. If that gets finished, then I'll unmask and see what still needs to be done.

Martin

And, with Dark Sea Grey applied (I didn't have any EDSG, and I thought it'd look a bit faded), I have unmasked the invasion stripes. Loads of greeblies to clean up, but I'm pretty happy on the whole.

Image

Tomorrow, I hope to get the greeblies cleaned up and the landing gear legs on.

I'm a bit embarrassed that, as GBL, I couldn't finish my own entry, but there you go. Here's where I got to by the end of the GB. Partial clean-up of paint greeblies left by my masking, canopy removed for frame painting and final finish-off of the cockpit sills / coaming, gear legs painted and added (wheels dry-fitted only).

Anyway, she's beginning to look quite good, imho. I'll continue to work on her in September and I'll post updates in my WW.
