After I took this, I joined the two main parts. Next step will be to carefully lay and align the decking on top and glue it down. I am still debating whether I should add some stiffeners or something to not only help putting the decking on but also with rigidity and strength.
Some very fine work there John.

Does the kit have any means of standing up on its own?

Steve

Steve, the SOC kit comes with a little block of plastic notched to serve as a cradle.

The Seagull is looking really good John - I might have to get one. Those scouts were pretty tough aircraft, two of them once managed to shoot down a Zero - and it's to see this type of navel aircraft being built, as they are often overlooked in favour of carrier aircraft.

I'm liking the catapult too - but when are you going to build the 1/72 Battleship to mount it on?

Well, if you read my intro post, you'll remember I am building it in markings of a cruiser-based aircraft, so I can probably get around to the smaller project in a couple weeks ....

Progress ...

Image

I had put the basic catapult together, cleaned/filled any seams, etc, and needed to get some paint on, particularly inside the girder assembly, so I did some very light misting of paint (Tamiya rattle-can Haze Gray) from all angles. I first masked off the area on each side where I have to attach more photoetch so I would have a good bond. Looks good and once I get the rest of the parts on, I can do a bit more misting if needed.

I also mounted the lower wing and tail to the fuselage. I have cleaned those parts and the upper wing, drilled a few holes for rigging, etc. I may change plans and mount the main and wingtip floats before painting. And I may paint the top of the upper wing, then mask it, then assemble it & bits/pieces, then just hose down the whole thing. I do not intend to get fancy with alum/metal, silver-dope/fabric - TS-17 does a fine job overall ....

The photoetch platforms/railings are on one side and I'm working the whitemetal gizmos now.

Little bit to do on opposite side, a bit more complicated because now I can't lay it on the side to work on but we'll get by ....

Yeah, but if I'm not careful, all I'll get finished is the catapult.

Cut off the tail of the Seagull, then just have the catapult and the tail sticking out of the sea surface. Instant dio!

John,

That's looking really good. How long is the catapult?

And thanks for the information regarding how it stands up without it.

Steve
