Paint seepage  cleaned, now it's onto sticking bits together.
The cockpit has some detail, but with a pilot in the seat it is barely visible so it's just getting the basics including the kit seat. Dry fitting of the fuselage, however, reveals a gap behind the bulkhead behind the seat, so I've shaped a piece of plastic card and glued some bits of plastic rod, cut sprue and sliced off part number tabs onto it. This will be glued to the back of the bulkhead to fill the gap. Photos later tonight.

The card 'bulkhead' to go behind the seat back.

I found more photos and noticed that Dave always seemed to wear a light coloured flight suit, so that got redone, which would show up the G-suit nicely....if they could be seen once the sides are shut!

....and it's starting to look like a plane now

Cracking figure painting, PT, but then, who's surprised?

Making great progress on the plane too.

Cheers guys.

Having a genuine 'Clansmen' helmet and oxygen mask to use as a reference certainly helps with the detailing. :-D

Thanks Tom, look forward to seeing it if you do.

Meanwhile.....    :boom:

Three quarters way through spraying the Gull Gray, my rattle can ran out, but not before sputtering all over the fuselage causing massive runs!
Since my LMS closed, I don't know of another shop in Glasgow that sells Tamiya paints! Might have to make a trip to Edinburgh to get more, so play may be suspended on this for a wee while (apart from a helluva lot of sanding and repair work

I thought Jamieson's in the Saltmarket stocked just about everything? Or is that your LMS? Hope not!

Martin, Jamiesons was my LMS, but Ian retired in May. One of the guys who worked there was talking about opening a shop elsewhere, due to the high city centre rates, but I've not heard anything so far.

Splash, Thanks for the heads up, there's apparently one out on the Eastern fringes, I'll phone to see if they have the right colour before venturing out to the Badlands though!

Noooooooo! Jamieson's was great! I haven't lived in Glasgow for a number of years, but I made a bee-line for it whenever I was up that way. A real quality model shop!

Martin, I share your pain!
If I find out that Ian Scott (the really polite guy who worked in Jamiesons) has opened his own shop, i'll pass on the details.

Stuart, I have contingency plans to get hold of some rattle can Tamiya AS16. (and hopefully a couple of MiniArt 1/16 figures for the "One thing into another" GB) :-D

I do, however, seem to have a complete lack of 1/72 'USS Saratoga' decals suitable to go above the 'NAVY' decal on the side of a SLUF. I have a couple of dozen sets of non-VA-46 SLUF decals going spare if anyone needs them.

Stuart, it says 'Light Gray (USAF)' on the lid, but I Googled 'Skyhawk build reviews' and some guy who seemed to have done a lot of research used that so that was good enough for me! I can see a very slight difference between AS16 and Humbrol 129 when side by side, but I use that to an advantage by outlining certain access panels to simulate handprints and wear without overdoing it.
