Gadfly's F4U - *** Finished ***
Re: Gadfly's F4U
Thanks for the link..
I have made a start with the decals...
After a good soak in microsol they seem happy to suck into the Panel lines with a bit of hairdryer assistance..
Cheers

Re: Gadfly's F4U
Thank you all.
I added the balance of the decals and also added a couple of post shaded panels here and there..
It needs clear coating then flatting back and the AG panel adding in in Non Specular Blue and my weathering plans can begin..
Thanks for looking
Cheers

Re: Gadfly's F4U
Thanks for the Kind words..
I have been progressing with the Corsair. Mainly on the weathering. It's had the usual stuff a spot filter from oils, A pastel dusting / ingraining and then some localised chips and paint with a karisma pencil and some paint. I also added in some fuel staining as F4U's were prone to this. The RNZAF Corsairs spend most of their operational flying operating off of various Coral Airstrips in the Solomon Islands and this coupled with the operational tempo and rudimentary conditions meant that aircraft were hardly pristine. I used white pastel to represent a good covering of coral dust which your going to get operating off of open airstrips with a big prop being spun round by a huge great R2800.
So hopefully things are improved and it now looks a bit less corgi toy like. Still to do is the U/C. I've swapped out the Academy wheels for some from a Tamiya F4U kit (which in turn has some Barracuda resin wheels) as the Academy wheels have ejection pin marks on the backs and the Tamiya mouldings are much much better. I need to add the rest of the canopy, paint the Gun sight I Scratch built and sot out the prop and I think the end is in sight..
Thanks for looking
Cheers

Thanks for the kind words..
Well all good things come to an end and F4U is no exception.
I finished the build up with the rigging and adding the U/C and the remaining part of the canopy along with a bit of detail painting. I also decided to add in a Drop tank which I painted with a base of Alclad and then a top coat of Gunze Sea Blue which I scratched through for for weathering effect.
Does it capture a well worn RNZAF Corsair toward the End of WWII??
Here is the finished Model.. I'll let you decide.
I hope you like the photos. These are with the 'Good' camera..
I enjoyed the build and thanks for following along and the nice comments along the way.
Let me know what you think.
Cheers GF

Wow. Seriously nice work. I take my hat off to you.
Enjoyment over accuracy. That's my motto
Re: Gadfly's F4U
GF,
That looks stunning! Seriously impressive stuff. And if you ever want to give a 'blow by blow' tutorial on your weathering techniques, I for one would be interested. (I really like the subtle bit of primer peeping through on the cowling, but the rest is spot-on too).
Thanks for taking part, and please continue to drop in on others' threads to comment or encourage as you see fit. Oh, and if you wish to build something else for this GB, please feel free!
regards,
Martin
