Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Any kit, any scale, any subject so long as it represents a participant during the period 10 July - 31 October, 1940.

From discussion, but not officially ruled upon, were suggestions that airfields, sector stations, air-sea rescue, attacks on invasion shipping ports, etc, could be included -- in other words, a broad definition of participants -- this will be a matter for the GBL to rule on as needed.

This GB started from a thread here.

The GB runs 15 August through 15 September and your host is DazDaMan, who will sort it all out.

Still undecided due to time restraints but if I do a CR42 looks to be different from the usual fare. Thanks to Fredk for posting a link to the Italian input to the BoB.

All in with the new Airfix Defiant. And I am assuming 15 August,

"The Battle of France is over. The Battle of Britain is about to begin."

Yes, but thankfully only in plastic form! :ha:

Historical consensus gives us the defining dates for the Battle as July 10th - October 31st 1940. With that, this GB can include aircraft which were used by the main combatants between those dates:

RAF
Spitfire Ia/IIa
Hurricane Ia/IIa
Defiant
Blenheim
Gladiator/Sea Gladiator
Battle
Beaufighter

Luftwaffe
Bf109E
Bf110C/D
He111
Ju87
Ju88
Do17

CAI
Fiat Cr.42
Fiat G.50
Fiat Br.20

Aircraft such as the Blenheim and Battle would have been used for attacking Channel ports, so they definitely belong here! The Beaufighter saw limited service during the Battle (equipping squadrons in early September if I remember right), but they should count. If there are any additional types (air-sea rescue aircraft, for instance) that can be backed up with confirmed participation, then feel free to throw them into the mix.

I'll send a PM to all those interested in participating later, as for some reason I can't do that on this PC.

Good luck, chaps. Let's make this our "finest hour"*.

Incidentally, I'm in with a Spitfire Ia (of course!) and a Bf109E for this one.

At the moment, I'm torn between the aircraft of Richard Hillary and Gerald "Stapme" Stapleton for the former, and Helmut Wick and Franz von Werra for the latter.

If I can, I'll fire a Ju87 and Hurricane into the GB as well.

I'd like to join this GB with the Airfix new tool Messerschmitt Bf110 C-2 as I've previously built all the Luftwaffe BoB planes except the 110. If I get it done quickly enough I might follow up with a Gladiator, Airfix new tool again. I think I'll keep the Italian contribution to a longer time-scale with all that mottling!

The Blenheim I and IV with the auxilliary gun packs fitted were used as fighters.
A FAA squadron also used Martlet 1s [Wildcats]

Trying to decide between a Spitfire, Blehheim, or Bf110.

If I go by first into the stash, first out of the stash, then the order would be Blenheim, Spitfire, Bf110.

If I go by which plane's canopy I'd prefer to mask/paint, the order would go Spitfire.
