Re: Purplethistle shows no imagination! - Airfix 1/48 NT Spi
Cheers Skipper,
Now I'm starting to come up against it. The cockpit tub including the bulkheads, firewall and I.P. has to be EXACT or there will be a struggle to fit the wings to the fuselage. Some shaving of the bottom of the firewall and the top of the headrest armour was required (after assembly & painting ) and still it was a struggle to keep the front and back of the wing assembly in place for the glue to set. (The rubber bands were also in use to try and shoot down some marauding flies that were buzzing me whilst I struggled with fitting the wings) I had dry fitted the wings and fuselage without the cockpit in, and the fit was so good that I felt confident enough to prepaint them before assembly in the belief that there would be no gaps! Fortunately some PVA with the relevant colour of acrylic paint mixed in was enough to sort out the couple of small gaps that resulted from the tight fit.

More weathering and the big decals going on....
Seeing as I've gone to a lot of trouble with the 'pit, I thought I'd convert the kit pilot to go outside the Spit, climbing up the wingroot.
First up, remove one leg at the hip and the other foot with a razor saw. Some cutting and sanding to reattach the leg and foot in their new positions, filler into the gaps ( including the one in his back ) and leave overnight to set while I scratch a 'chute and straps

That 's all looking great.
For a minute there I thought that you were going to model Douglas Bader.

Steve

That's nice. Not too busy but conveys the mood of the moment.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

That's great Purplethistle. Getting a 1/48 aircraft completed in a month is some achievement let alone adding to it.
