OT's Biggin Hill Spitfire *** Finished ***
This will be my entry for this group build.
Believe it or not, I haven't built a BoB Spitfire in over 25 years. This will be OOB representing as it does a Spitfire of 610sqn based at Biggin Hill in July 1940.
This particular release of the kit is the 'Daily Mail' limited edition & comes in Sky coloured plastic. Looks a bit funky.
I should make it clear that I don't read the Daily Mail. Just thought I would mention that before UKIP try to recruit me.

This bird is famous for its wonky lettering.
Just thought, I had better check that I have the correct paints.

Re: OT's Biggin Hill Spitfire
Just a quick update. I started work on the interior (always stick to the instructions me. )
I will dry brush a little silver on to highlight the details then fit the IP, seat etc. and hopefully get the fuselage closed up tonight.

Re: OT's Biggin Hill Spitfire
Thanks Steve. I spent a pleasant evening last night on the Spitfire.
Weathered the interior - not sure why as nothing will be seen once the canopy is on.
I added some tape seatbelts, just enough detail to fool the eye.
Then before I knew it the thing was together!
The fit has been a bit tight but nothing a little sanding couldn't fix.
That is where I will leave it for now as I am at the Blitzbau house this weekend.

Re: OT's Biggin Hill Spitfire
Thanks Daz. If I can get the canopy closed up tonight I will get some primer on and take it with me to the Blitzbau house this weekend. I am doing a Spitfire for that to which wears a similar scheme.DazDaMan wrote:Great work, OT!

Re: OT's Biggin Hill Spitfire
This one has been on the back burner whilst I do battle with a Zvezda MiG-21.
Some progress has been made though, primed & green applied:
Just sprayed the brown on. Will see how it looks tomorrow.

Re: OT's Biggin Hill Spitfire
Looking very good.
So, as it's over 25 years since your last Spitfire, will the next one you build be for the 100th Anniversary of the Battle? Who knows, Airfix might have re-tooled it again by then
Regards,
Steve

Re: OT's Biggin Hill Spitfire
That's coming along nicely OT. What brand and colour of paints have you used for the DE/DG camouflage?

Re: OT's Biggin Hill Spitfire
The green is from a Tamiya rattle can & I am not too impressed with it as it looks too green if you know what I mean. The brown is Xtracrylix RAF Dark Earth (XA1002).Garethster wrote:That's coming along nicely OT. What brand and colour of paints have you used for the DE/DG camouflage?
I may paint over the green area with Xtracrylix RAF Dark Green(XA1001) as I have a little left and really the camo should have hard edges.
If I am still here I will do it.SteveC wrote:Looking very good.
