Best of luck with that. It was my first build after a 30 year lay off. It was not an easy return to the hobby

Re: Chip Battles a Fairey
I have not built much for a few months now so this should be a nice settler back into the hobby.
There are not too many parts to cause me problems:
Though I may have to remove the rivets from it:
The instructions are nicely laid out:
Decals and schemes supplied do not fit the BoB theme required here so I will be raiding the spares box to try and produce this:
Piloted by F/Lt Sulinski in September 1940, this machine took part in the air raid against invasions equipment in Boulogne.

Hi!
I am glad to see the Battle from Polish Bomber Squadron. I hope you will had nothing against if I do Battle too? ;)
With other decals- GRoF from 301 PBS, or BHoA -300 PBS (decals from the SP-Decal).

Don't bother trying too hard to get the bombs to fit. If I did one again I'd do it without them.
If you want to make a truly accurate version get this http://www.valiant-wings.co.uk/172-fair ... se-2-p.asp; kit for the nose.

Having looked at other builds on the net I think your advice is worth following. I am tempted to extend the nose with a bit of plastic, and to amend the tail but time is short for me at the moment so I will have to see how it goes.TobyC wrote:Don't bother trying too hard to get the bombs to fit.

This is what I ended up with after much fiddling.Molly-new wrote:Having looked at other builds on the net I think your advice is worth following. Re: Chip Battles a Fairey
Nice work Toby, It looks as though the bombs are virtually unseen once fitted! This has backed up my decision to leave them off and go for the "returning empty from a successful bombing run" idea.
Having finally got 10 minutes to myself I made a start by splashing a bit of paint around the cockpit:
And painting up the crew:
The 2 piece wings have also been assembled:
Quite pleased with the progress so far, I can feel my MOJO returning.......

Those pilots look rather splendid.Molly-new wrote:I will be building the Airfix (03032) Fairey Battle in No. 300 Polish Squadron livery.
Did the RAF give all their 'front line' aircraft to our staunch Polish allies?

Re: Chip Battles a Fairey
According to Wiki: Initially equipped with Fairey Battle light bombers, the squadron was equipped with Vickers Wellington medium bombers on 16 November 1940. In 1941 while the unit was equipped with Wellingtons and flying from Hemswell on 'Gardening' (mining) operations, the squadron's Intelligence Officer was Michael Bentine, later to become well known as an entertainer. On 5 March 1944 the unit was re-equipped with Avro Lancaster bombers and continued to use that bomber until the end of World War II.SteveC wrote:Did the RAF give all their 'front line' aircraft to our staunch Polish allies?

Re: Chip Battles a Fairey
Over the weekend I have managed to get some modelling done. First off was to close up the bomb doors:
Not a brilliant fit but better once sanded back at the same time as removing the rivet detail:
I have also added navigation lights form clear sprue:
Progress has started on the new tail rudder;
lots of sanding required here, I hope all the effort will be worth it.
