In between all the sanding I have assembled the fuselage:

Image

After comparing it to a profile picture I realised that the nose is indeed way too short, and as I have modified the tail I may as well modify the nose.....

Image

The nose was sliced off and 4mm of plastic sheet added. Whilst the nose was off I added a thin piece of plastic to represent the radiator and to prevent 'see through'.

Image

The nose has been reattached and once fully dry will be filled and sanded to blend it all in.

Progress is slow but I have managed to get the nose blended in:

Image

The pilot got a bit of a bashing whilst the sanding was being done so he will need touching up later.

Most of my time has been spent on sanding and shaping the new tail rudder:

Image

I am quite pleased with how it has come out. Next task is to complete construction......

Thanks Steve.

The construction has been completed, it has received a wash to remove all the sanding dust, just need to mask the navigation lights so I can spray on the undercoat to see how well it has all blended in.

Crikey, where has the time gone? Pesky real life getting in the way.

At last I have got a coat of primer on:

The underneath needs a bit of work prior to the top coat though:

Going to be a push to get this finished.

There's always something far more satisfying about a build like this than a shake and bake with loads of aftermarket accessories , nice build

With encouragement like that I had to get a move on, so on with a coat of green, followed by masking for the brown:

Brown applied and masking removed:

It has now had a coat of gloss varnish in preparation for the decals. I should get this done in time.

This morning I spent a quiet hour cutting painted tape and applying to the canopy:

This afternoon I managed to get some of the decals on:

Having printed off the serials for the side and tail I discovered that my spray can of varnish is empty. :???: I will be making a mercy dash to the LMS to get a new can in the morning so could be finished on time.

Whilst fitting the canopy on I realised that the tail gunners seat is in the wrong position:

Image

I will be posing the rear piece of canopy open so need to remove the seat and glue it in further forward.

I have also had a nightmare with the decals that I printed off. Having picked up a new can of varnish I went to apply a coat over the decals and this happened:

Image

Someone appears to have placed a can of Acrylic Primer on the shelf labeled varnish. I will not be able to get another can now prior to going on holiday tomorrow so I will have to see what I can do with the kits decals:

Image

I should be able to convert the 'F' into a 'T' easy enough, and try to paint in the missing part of the 'B'. I have some old Polish roundels that have been in the window bleaching out the yellow since I started the build as a back-up, I hope they don't disintegrate when they go in some water.

Nothing's ever easy is it? :???:

This is as finished as it can be after my decal dilemmas. The conversion went quite well, with Revel 43 Mittelgrau being a perfect match for painting in the bottom of the 'B'. I had to redo the center green due to my over exuberance with the grey but I think it will pass muster.

The Polish roundels behaved as decals should, but once removed from the backing sheet it was evident that it was only the red that had been printed. To overcome this I applied the decal to a white self adhesive envelope label, cut it out and stuck it on. Looks a bit bright at the moment so I may be tempted to give the whole thing a dark wash once I get the time.

Image

All in all I am quite pleased with the way it came out, and doing the work to correct the nose and tail rudder was fun, if not totally necessary. ;-)
