Well I wasn't going to do the pilot but now you mention it, it would be rude not to really wouldn't it?

If you've got a set of the wee Airfix RAF Personnel you could use a boilersuited erks body with a flying helmeted head and 'chute pack transplanted onto it. That way you get an accurate representation of Clowes and you get to see the very nice cockpit detail too!

I don't know how accurate you want your model to be, but wasn't Clowe's Hurri a metal wing one? The Airfix one has the fabric wing. There are also some differences to the shape of the windscreen between early and later Mk 1s, and it looks like Clowe's machine had the blunt Rotol prop and spinner, rather then the more pointed de Havilland one.

Are you cross-kitting, or is the above just JMN nonsense from me as usual?

regards,

Martin
It's not nonsense at all Martin and does give me something to think about. However I am just going to go with what the kit presents me. Thanks for the input, it's always good to have options

It's a nice idea but I'll go with the pilot in the box. A white boiler suit with a yellow life jacket. I'm sure he would have worn that at some point!

This Hurricane is in A scheme.
Generally; A scheme was on uneven numbers on Hurricanes, but on even numbered Spitfires.
The Sky/Black under was post Battle of Britain.
Black/white scheme was replaced with Sky & no roundels in June 40, roundels were added early in August 40. Sky/black came in November 40.

I haven't had much time for this in the last week or so but made a start.

No issues with the kit so far.

The kit goes together very well. A very small amount of filler was needed.

Image

Once together it feels very solid. Doesn't give the impression of being delicate so it would easily fall apart.

Thanks Steve.

I have the underside painted and will be starting topside shortly. I picked these up from Hannants. Never used them before but thought I'd give them a go.

That's looking really good. The paint masks seem a good idea. No problems with them?

Looks well.
Test fit your prop sub assembly carefully. I've read from others that it can be a very tight fit which pushes the two fuselage halves apart.

I've got some of these masks and think they're pretty good and seeing the excellent job you've done I imagine you think the same

Thanks all. No problems with the masks, I'd definitely use them again. The prop assembly fits ok, in fact if anything it may be very slightly loose.

The decals are complete and this shiny aircraft is now ready for some Matt Cote.

Image

One issue with the decals though. Both the wasps are facing the same way. So when I put the decal on the starboard side it either needs to be on backwards or upside-down. I went for the former.

Narayan,

Looking good, and the pilot looks very dapper in his dinner jacket.

Those masks seem to have worked a treat, what I would have done for those a week ago!

Regards,

Steve

Is this the one you were building with your son, or is that still yet to be unveiled?
