Paul's Defiant Against the Odds

Post by PaulBradley »

I'll be building one of Airfix's latest:

Sprue shots:

Panel lines are finer than previous recent Airfix releases, detail overall looks very nice.

And so onto the build:

All gone together very nicely so far - a trial fit of the fuselage halves shows no issues, and, with the wings all glued up, there doesn't appear to be any issue there either. A nice build so far.

I think is the first build I've seen of the new Defiant and I'm impressed with what I've seen so far.

The Battle of Britain one, of course... :ha:

264 Sqn, July 1940 - the boxart shows what it'll look like. The other option in the box is an all-black 151 Sqn machine from February 1941 - the one with the shark mouth. Jeff is also doing this kit and, I presume, these markings, so I'm going to scour my references and spares box to see if I can come up with an alternate serial and code.

I was thinking that the nightfighter was also in the BoB. Silly me :)

Might have to get one of these. Building (sometime), the old tool one, have a resin replacement nose from Valiant Wings to go with it. Making it as part of my wider BoB build.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

It's gone together quite well - there's nothing particularly difficult with this kit - so far:

The wing trailing edges are rather thick and need a bit of sanding down, which I did on the undersides, out of view. There's a bit of a step when the wings match up to the fuselage, but a little Perfect Plastic Putty has taken care of that. Pretty simple, as I say.

Super start on this one Paul. I will be using 264 as I can not source any thing different at this time. 264 lists a pretty intensive history.

No worries, Jeff - I'll rummage through my spare decals to find an alternate for me to use.

Thanks!

It's a nice little kit. I think they are learning form their past mistakes - and that's a great sign for things to come.
