Howard's 4 gun flying attitude 141 Squadron***DNF***

Post by jamesaw »

Finally finished the Dornier and started the Defiant last night. I'm building the starter kit version with hopefully my after market Almark decals (if I can find them). Pics up tonight or tomorrow AM.

Nix on the Almark decals, but I did find some Letraset codes. I'm thinking of doing a 141 Squadron machine. The Starter set does have a BoB era machine, but only 141 and 264 squadron were officially accredited.

Letraset codes (these are quite old!)

I assembled the main cockpit area and have taped the fuselage sides together to ensure that the glue sets with everything in alignment. The fit is very tight (a testament to close tolerances), so I don't want to be forcing the issue anywhere when it comes time to close up the fuselage.

Wings are glued after first having glued in the wheel well section and I separated the elevators with a razor saw so I can deflect them slightly for a bit of added interest.

I did manage to break one of the gun barrels when I removed them from the sprue, so be careful! It has since been reset so we're good to go.

That is coming along very well indeed.

Have you posted pictures of the Dornier?

Hi Steve:

Yes, but I put them in the aviation section as neither were part of the Group Build.

Made some progress over the weekend. Aircrew painted and office completed. Major assemblies are now assembled and I must say, the fit on this is superb

Have the turret assembled, framing interior colour applied and flying surfaces attached. All being well, I should be getting some paint on this evening.

Unfortunately the Letraset didn't work (it was over 40 years old). Defiant is camo'd and decalled with the exception of codes and serials. Hope to blitz it tonight so I can get it in under the wire! I went to plan B on the codes with decals, forgetting the company didn't seal them after printing so those all fell apart. Have sealed a new set of alternates and hopefully these will hold.

I'll tell you, I had one heck of a time trying to capture that toilet plunger shape on the end of the barrels and I don't think I was entirely successful!

Unfortunately, no amount of searching yielded the right size squadron codes so I'm at a bit of an impasse. I will have to fabricate the "A"'s somehow so I can finish. The TW's are just a tad too small so they were removed.
