Arc's Big Supermarine Stranraer
It's the old classic ex-MB 1/72 Stranraer from Revell. This seems to be one of the most highly-regarded and beloved of the old Matchbox moulds (as a side note, Revell are keen to acknowledge their lineage these days, which is nice). I'll probably do the NMF pre-war option but I'm as yet undecided on whether it'll be on the beaching gear or in flight. I'll have to figure out a way of posing it (I don't think even the Airfix 1/48 stands would be up to the job!)
Four sprues of solid grey plastic. "Chunky" is the word that springs to mind. One not-so-clear clear sprue as well, of course. Gazing at it fondly and looking at locations for lots and lots and lotsa rigging holes and wondering if I can turn the two-part construction of each wings to my advantage.

Is that the boxart? It is really nice.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

Re: Arc's Big Supermarine Stranraer
The Stranraer was the Aircraft Described in the October 1959 Aeromodeller. I was fascinated by it and at Christmas that year, I got a drafting board, T-square, and my uncles old drafting set. I spent several days patiently redrawing it.
For the model, I did a Canadian aircraft from the West Coast Flying Boat Stations, a mix of camo and silver.

yes, John, it's one of my favourite planes, too. I'm a big fan of Supermarine FBs and wish more were available in injection kits (€80 for the Silver Wings Southampton )
Some of the Canadian military and civil schemes are very attractive, which is as good an excuse as any to build another!

Re: Arc's Big Supermarine Stranraer
I was/am sorely tempted to build my Matchbox Stranraer for this build but with a flare up of a long term health condition and having a week away at the start of October, I can't see me finishing in time. I guess I will have to content myself with watching this build.

I'll try and do it justice, Martin.
Well, I'm finally going to have some free time this evening in between yet more guiding stunned-looking incoming 1st years around University and telling them vital info that they're going to instantly forget/proofreading my GF's Masters' Thesis (due Tuesday.. eep!)/working so I'll get this underway later. I'm guessing no-one here is unfamiliar with the sprues, but I guess those shots are traditional!

Re: Arc's Big Supermarine Stranraer
and here we go...
Box Art, and very nice it is too..
Sprues
Clear parts.. sort of
Decals (again, looking good but my, what a lot of little footprints)
Hello chaps, went out and got legless, I see?
No interior detail.. I may add some, but in all honesty very little will be visible
Guess I should get building, hey?

Re: Arc's Big Supermarine Stranraer
Researched Stranraer internal colours, came across a very informative discussion about Supermarine greens on this very forum involving joint gbl Lancfan..
Read it, ignored it, grabbed a tin of H120 and slopped it on . I'm a terrible modeller. (and the Supermarine colour thread will come in very handy down the line, so well done, gents)

Nice start! I still may not be able to stay out of this build. Perhaps I have something a bit simpler I could do. Off to the stash methinks.

Re: Arc's Big Supermarine Stranraer
The Stranraer is ticking along.. fuselage buttoned up, windows masked, a rattlecan blast of Aluminium to see where the seam needed fixing etc
Wings being cut off and cleaned up (boy, there are some mighty gates on some of these)
Moar soonest

Re: Arc's Big Supermarine Stranraer
The more I see this kit being built by you and others, the more I think I need one, I just love the look of these old flying boats.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.
