Yes, indeed. They surely do. The gap you can see through the fuselage is entirely due to me not having sanded the lower parts of the fuselage where the pour stubs and flash were.. once I've done that, this should be a glorious fit. Kudos to Choroszy.

I have been experimenting with wood effect on my Albatros W4 float plane using oil paints (Build tread link) and have found if you only use a very light coat of thinned oil paint followed by a coat of Tamiya clear orange for extra depth of colour you can handle the model within 24 hours.

This is the effect I managed.

Thanks Alan, and that's a great finish on the W4! Got one of those on the way from Freightdog..

OK

First week back at Uni has been, frankly, exhausting so I didn't get much modelling done. However, I've used a soon-to-be invisible section of the Channel's interior to test wood effect. Splash's method is the one I use for wood anyway, but the extra-thin coat that he used to get such a nice finish on the W.4 is the way to go with the fuselage. However, I'm using a much darker base colour (Citadel Doombull Brown.. the guy who gets paid to think these names up has a great job, no?) so the Liquin-thinned Raw Umber is going to be subtler. Rubbish camera doesn't show it, but the "grain" looks OK.
Once it's dry one side will get Clear Orange, the other Clear Red, just to see which one looks more "Mahogany" and then we'll have a blueprint for how to proceed. The floor got the treatment, too, as will the seat back (a lighter base colour)

I fully cleaned up the fuselage halves and the fit is wonderfully seamless.

More soon (hopefully)

In addition, Choroszy do really nice engines. Here's a lovely wee Beardmore.. with lots of work to be done on it, obviously

Your mahogany effect looks great, the colour looks spot on.

Good thinking with the interior as a test canvas!

I'll be quite interested to see the difference between clear orange and red.

Thanks gents. I've used Clear red over Revell Purple Red for leather effect on seats before, but not on wood. We shall see!

So, here's the experiment.. both halves are Citadel Doombull Brown with a thin trail of Raw Umber oils, covered with two coats of Clear Red (top) /Clear Orange (bottom) and then a coat of Revell Gloss Varnish.

Image

Again, my camera sucks. Anyway, I think I'll stick with the orange: the Clear Red is a little TOO red..

FWIW, I had that Clear Red idea once, tested it, and went right back to Clear Orange.

Yes indeed.. it seemed like it could work but it's a little too red to look realistic. Oh well, nothing ventured and all that!

As this build inches forward after all the excitement of experiments with wood effect, I realise it's time to get this fuselage closed up. Initial dry-brush on the internal framework, more to come.

Image

Seats' nearly there and (not pictured) attempting to remove the steering wheel from its flash without destroying it.

Should be closed up and ready for the next phase shortly.
