Thank you everyone, and yes Thistle, it really has given that nice feeling, just connecting it to real life so to speak, made it more meaningful and even drove on the build to make sure it wasn't a DNF!. Always try to be a decent person so your comment (and others) makes me feel good, thank you.
I wasn't sure whether to do the figure in case it was inappropriate or unwelcome but it seemed like a nice thing to do, sort of having the Catalina from 1944 and Toby's dad from 2002 seemed a good 'then and now' moment, so I went for it. By the way, the figure came from the 1/72 Hasegawa US Pilots and Ground crew set so he originally started life as a helmet carrying, cloth cap wearing 6ft American!!. (After surgery he's now about 5'6"!!).
As a side note Kingkit have Airfix Catalina's for £9-99. Wonder if another might fit on the shelves somewhere?.....
Phew, that's all for now!!
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Actually my Dad was about 6'2" at his peak but shrunk a bit in later life.

Well done it looks brilliant, I was at Duxford on Sunday watching an all white Catalina doing circuits, it looked and sounded beautiful. I did feel old, when I looked in the Fleet Air Arm hanger they had a Seaking and Wasp, both of which I had flown operationally  so I had to move quick in case they made me into an exhibit :-D

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

That's brilliant. Great build and the "real life" aspect was wonderful.
