Marky's Cat. ***FINISHED***

Post by MarkyM607 »

Filling this requirement will be the Airfix Catalina. It is an 80's issue with the blue/white blueprint box top. Not sure whether to do all black US Navy or white and camo.

I like the white/camo, but black would be pretty cool, too. Choices, choices!
Is this your sanderling?.

+1 for white / camo. I'll be watching this as I want to do an Airfix Cat (or Canso, or whatever) at some point.

I did build this many moons ago and did the black US Navy one so Camo/White it is!. Opened the box today and cut off three bits, that's about it. The Fairey Battle conversion/correction is taking my attention!.

Although I said this is an 80's issue I've found a date printed on a wing part. It says '1964'!!. Here is progress so far. Not too much but at least we've started.

Yep all done. Ahem, shuffle feet, avoid rapidly growing nose...
I'll get on with it today in truth, have to do five hour holiday clean at my school job Tuesday and Wednesday so slowing of progress until Thursday... Course it's back to school again so no lazy afternoons building models. Sigh.

It will be interesting to follow this buid as I have this kit along with some Stoppel decals for a very colourful Danish aircraft, plus, its classic Airfix! Whats not to like?

Just a quick update, haven't got as much done as hoped, a few busy days a work. Here we are at present. Used PVA glue for the windows, something I like to do whenever possible. Only meant to paint the cockpit and waist positions green but decided a lot might be visible through the big waist windows so went the whole hog and painted the lot!!.

My dad used to pilot a PBY5 so looking forward to this. He used to fly with J Cruikshank VC but had left for warmer climes before the latter won his gong.

I used to have his log book but gave it to the Catalina society and stupidly forgot to make a note. His was the non amphibian so you'd have to ditch the wheels. His plane did have an R on the tail and he was based in Korangi Creek in 44/45 with either 191 or 212 squadron
