I will build this Frog Blackburn Shark II in kit markings as the prototype, K4295 when in floatplane configuration in May 1935.

Nice choice, David. I haven't seen this built often but love old Frog kits.

A Shark, an Osprey and a Stranraer already. Going to be a good GB for silver wings
Is this your sanderling?.

Re: Lancfan's shark
I'll be watching. I started this kit once, got myself all screwed up in the struts or something and quit. I'll have to watch yours carefully and then drag one back off the shelf.

Will begin the build this coming week, I am tidying up other GB loose ends before I begin.

Re: Lancfan's shark
It'll be nice seeing this built. I gather it's quite a good one unless I'm very much mistaken.

I'm looking forward to seeing this built as I have one near the top of my build list.

Re: Lancfan's shark
The most difficult part of this kit is detailing the cockpit and as there are no Blackburn Sharks around today I couldn't find anything of any real use online. The recent Aeroplane FAA WW2 Archive special did not include a cutaway for this aircraft which would have been most useful. I eventually found just two very unrevealling cockpit shots of (I think) a mk 3 Shark online and this has resulted in a lot of missing detail in my representation of the cockpit. Here it is ready for paint.
The Evergreen/spares box interior is here painted ready for assembly.
The fuselage halves were next glued together.
The joint lines were then cleaned up and the lower wing centre sections were assembled and fitted.

Re: Lancfan's shark
Nice job on the interior. So does the little stool in the rear cockpit fold aside so the observer/gunner can walk about back there?

Re: Lancfan's shark
This is the model as it now stands, the wings have been assembled and the holes for the interplane rigging have been drilled out, I have pictured the simple and effective optional parts for the folded wing option in the centre of the image, this is the kind of thoughtful design feature that we seldom get to see today.

Re: Lancfan's shark
This is the progress since last Sunday.
The basic colour scheme was applied to the fuselage, the top of the lower wing halves and the undersides of the upper wing panels were painted in alluminium.
The decals were then applied.
This is how the model looks now- the lower wing halves have been glued to the fuselage, the outerplane struts have been attached to the lower wing, the cockpit has been completed, the arrestor hook has been glued down and the torpedo attachment points have been fitted and improved over the standard kit parts. the underwing bombs supplied with the kit have crude integral racks so as this is the prototype I have decided not to fit ordnance and have replaced the kit bombs with bomb racks modified from spare Revell Lancaster racks.

Re: Lancfan's shark
This is the close of play tonight, the model is close to completion with just the interplane struts, floats and engine to paint and fit to finish the model.
