Eclipse Photos

Post by AndrewR »

We did not get a total eclipse in Ottawa, it was about 98%. Katie set up her little Questar telescope and solar filter. This sequence starts about 20 minutes before totality. She has an adapter to mount her phone camera on the eyepiece.

You can see sunspots on the first picture.

The last photo is the maximum eclipse. The temperature dropped several degrees and the streetlights came on. The quality of the light changed too - it was much more like illumination from a fluorescent strip light.

That is really cool Andrew!

Alas I'll be long dead before the next total eclipse is over the UK, I'd love to see one.

Wow, cool photos, Andrew! It's neat you can see the sunspots!

We had 68% coverage here, but it was hazy so pointless taking photos. Still neat though.

Very cool. We had 80% here west of you. Overcast all day until around an hour before the start. I used a paper plate and a pinhole though an index card.

We were lucky to get a mostly clear day, with just a bit of haze, not enough to get in the way.
