Display units
My wife (being somewhat arts & craft orientated) has just made these shelf units for her furniture up-cycling business, and 'borrowed' some models to use as display examples before advertising the shelf units for sale. I must admit, they look rather good together!
Best wishes
Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Re: Display units
They are made from scaffold boards that didn't meet a visual grading inspection, and would otherwise have been cut into sole-boards (to go under scaffold uprights) or just burnt.planecrazyman61 wrote:hi iggie they look good i'd be interested to know how she achieved the wood grain contrast ,maybe burnt timber which has been re-planed or planed timber scorched with a blow torch or similar

The wood is sanded before assembly and then scorched with a blow lamp as you suggest. Once scorched, they are sealed with two coats of wax. I think they've turned out well!

Re: Display units
Nice idea.

Re: Display units
Hi John, they start out as 9" x 1&3/4" (225 x 38mm) so once ripped down the middle are 4&1/2" x 1&3/4"
The proportions seem to work nicely at that size

They look good. I hope the Fe21b isn't too heavy for its shelf though

Re: Display units
Thanks, yes they do. Not far off from using a US "2x10" in same manner. They would also seem to be stackable in varying artistic configurations, easy to reconfigure. Maybe put "glass" on the back, back-light .... I may have an idea for my overcrowded display case ....iggie wrote:Hi John, they start out as 9" x 1&3/4" (225 x 38mm) so once ripped down the middle are 4&1/2" x 1&3/4"

Great use of those scaffold boards by Mrs Iggie, she certainly has some talent! You wouldn't want to see my efforts with wood

Re: Display units
Funny you mention lights, I have just ordered some tiny led lights which are mounted on copper wire to try in one of the shelves. They have a USB plug on the other end, so very easy to power.jRatz wrote:Thanks, yes they do. Not far off from using a US "2x10" in same manner.
