BBMF 'Grounded'

Post by iggie »

Heard this on Radio 4 this morning; Lancaster, both Hurricanes and 3 Spitfires all grounded due to engine problems......
The other Griffon Spits are also grounded for unspecified reasons.
I'm on a building site in Eastbourne at present so this may have been updated by now but not good news for the remaining Airshows unless it can be resolved quickly :-|
Best wishes

Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

I believe its preventative grounding
Metal particles have been found in the oil of one of the Merlin engines so all the aeroplanes using Merlins have been grounded to check if this is a Merlin engine fault/problem or just in the one engine
The Griffon engined Spitfires, the Dak and the Chippy are neither affected nor grounded because of this but the Griffon Spitfires are undergoing 50 hour service and deep maintenance/refurbishment
Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Cheers for the additional information Fred, and hopefully indicative of an isolated issue in one engine....
Fingers crossed for all hoping to see them fly during the rest of the season
Best wishes
