Quite a heck of a lot of years ago I was given an american coin in my change here in the UK. probably instead of a 10p piece. It says Half Dollar on it and is dated 1967, and has who I think may be JFK on the head side (pics below) is it in current circulation? If not is it a common coin? Not hoping to make money on it as I doubt it would be worth much but just curious. Any info greatly received.
All the best.
Greg
Ps. Sorry, don't know how the pics ended up upside down.

You could understand it if they'd been Australian....Gregers wrote:Ps. Sorry, don't know how the pics ended up upside down.

Yes, a JFK half dollar. A common coin.
1967 is one of the final few years when the half dollar still contained silver [about 40%] No silver half $ came in about '71
In mint uncirculated condition a '67 is worth about £6, in used but good condition about £1 to £1.50

Cheers for the info Fred. As I said I didn't think it would have been worth much. Just curious. It's sat untouched in my wallet for at least the last 19 years (proves how often my wallet gets opened - last time I opened it a pterodactyl flew out)
Cheers and all the best.

Not in common use over here, and one in that condition is not worth much more than face value here, but it would look good as part of a base for a 1960's-era US aircraft model!

Well Greg, that sums it up nicely. I gave all of mine to the grandkids.

Cheers guys. That is an idea I had toyed with Paul, and seeing as it's 50 years since mans fastest non orbital/space flight in 1967 when Knight flew the X15 to a still unbroken record and half a doller is of course 50 cents....well I think you know what I am getting at. Unfortunatly I am not sure I will have time this year though. Ho well.
