Daz's Lottery Spitfire **FINISHED**

This is a GB for Heller kits and derivatives thereof - any kit, any scale, any variant, any markings. However, not everyone is allowed to build HMS Victory, so get your bids in early. Runs 12 September through 11 October and your host is TobyC.

Daz's Lottery Spitfire **FINISHED**

Post by DazDaMan »

Yes of course I was going to add one of these to the build pile!

Image

I plan on doing this build in a similar vein to my '108 model, as a "Lottery win" aircraft.

Stay tuned...!

I would've been very disappointed if you hadn't ;-)

Well, here's the sprue shot, with which we should be well familiar by now!
Image

The observant will note the differently-coloured wingtips to the right of the picture - these are from the Matchbox kit (an example of which is sitting drying on the plastic tray in the background). These will be attached to the model, as many flyable Mk.XVI aircraft currently fly with the wingtips fitted. The rest of the build, save for the decals, will be straight from the box.

I reckon I could just about build one of these in my sleep, but seeing as how this involves removing parts with a scalpel, it might not be such a great idea!

So, within a few hours, we have this....

And a little while later...

I had to fill in the leading edge of the starboard wing because the pieces slipped and I didn't notice in time! I managed to trim the trailing edge, but the leading edge needed a bit of building up and re-shaping.

I imagine Daz doesn't even need waste time looking at the instructions any more, so any of Supermarines Finest will be a 'Spitzbau' :-D

This is definitely a blitz-able kit, but not on this occasion.

I'm sure I've done it as such before, though!

That's speedy work but then I have it from a reliable source that you've made one or two Spits before

Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVI RG904 was built just before the end of WW2, and spent an unremarkable postwar career at No.3 CAACU, although it was used as a static set dressing for the film Reach for the Sky. Presumed scrapped, the aircraft's fuselage was actually hidden in a barn by a thoughtful enthusiast who was responsible for making tea and coffee on the set! Rediscovered in 1990, the aircraft went through a succession of owners before winding up with Lottery winner Daren Cogdon, who had the aircraft restored to fly at the Museum of Flight, East Fortune. Its first post-restoration flight took place at East Fortune on 31st June 2015. The aircraft is painted in its owner's markings - and, since he is a cat fanatic, Ian Gleed's "Figaro the Cat" artwork was applied below the canopy!
