Messerschmitt 108 - Isle of Man Air Race 1937 **Finished**

This is a GB for Heller kits and derivatives thereof - any kit, any scale, any variant, any markings. However, not everyone is allowed to build HMS Victory, so get your bids in early. Runs 12 September through 11 October and your host is TobyC.

Messerschmitt 108 - Isle of Man Air Race 1937 **Finished**

Post by fredk »

I've had decals for ages for doing Messerschmitt's official entry into the Isle of Man Air Race. [Photo of decals to follow later]
The box for the kit is long gone;

It was reduced to this for compact storage.

In this set are the markings for Willi Messerschmitt's personal 108. I have another kit lined up for that scheme. Its RLM 63 overall.

There'll be no modelling done for a few days. The bulb holder in my main angle light has finally given up. I'm awaiting some replacement parts now. I can't use the other light or jury-rig another as I've had to turn off the power to my modelling desk corner.

What to do?
There were two 108s in the 1937 Isle of Man Air Race.
The winner was no.21 D-IOSA. Presentation of the 21 was on a rectangle.
I think D-IHDD wasn't even placed. The race was beset with problems of heavy fog.
I think I'll have to dig through my Luftwaffe spares and see if I can come up with white registration letters to do the winning aeroplane. Looks like the only parts of this decal sheet I'll be using are the tail markings and the Typhoon name.

Just painting and glossing the last few days; Humbrol 104 for the dark blue.

Multiple coats of Klear on to get it shiney.
I need to paint the canopy framing and surround silver.

I cobbled together the decals for the race winner, # 21
Decals on so far;

Not much more to do. Just painting the canopy frames and surround, touch in the paint on the tyres and glaze the landing light. The prop is ready to glue on at the end.
