Re: Stuart's Desert Duel!
Main part of the P-40 is assembled, I wasn't overly impressed with the fit of the wing.
The only other annoyance is the damage the huge and poorly located sprue gates have done the top and bottom of the nose - filler will be needed.
Here are the pilots, the deformed one one the left is our jolly brit from 112 sqn and the one on the right is from the 109.
As you can see, I'm also heading for a solid nose.
Cheers

Re: Stuart's Desert Duel!
Just got a wood working guy in my office to cut me a base from 18mm mdf. I'm going to cover it with sand and mount the A/C with brass rod.
I'm wondering if I should add something to it like a tank etc. To give it some scale...

Sweet progress on this build.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

Re: Stuart's Desert Duel!
Thanks Jeff - I'll crack on with the 109 tomorrow I think, that way I can do the Filling and sanding on both at the same time.jssel wrote:Sweet progress on this build.

It depends on how long your supporting rods are going to be I suppose, but a 1/144 tank might add some depth of fieldSir T wrote:I'm wondering if I should add something to it like a tank etc. To give it some scale...
And a camel
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Coming along nicely.
IMHO -No. It wont need it and will detract attention from the two aeroplanesSir T wrote:I'm wondering if I should add something to it like a tank etc. To give it some scale...

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Re: Stuart's Desert Duel!
Started on the 109 - painted the insides Humbrol 240 (which I think is RLM 02)...
Not a bad looking model this - test fitting shows the cockpit fit to be a bit of a pig but it should be ok. It's very similar to their 1/48 NT 109 kit.
Cheers

I've found that with a couple of the NTs, especially the 1/48 Spit 1. Getting the 'pit to fit is like trying to get into 30" waist trousers!

You may well be right - it probably would. Maybe I'll do a single aircraft one day with a tank on the base.fredk wrote:Coming along nicely.
