Re: Daz's Dogfight Double
If you want my opinion, (& why wouldn't you?) when I looked at that picture I immediately thought 'that's a red spinner'. Then I read the thread and I have not changed my mind. It's definitely not black, sky, yellow or blue. As the aircraft is being stripped it could be a red primer though.
Anyway, it will look good coz it's a Spitfire and not a Moose-Tang!

Re: Daz's Dogfight Double
Well, as I was doing the decals, I picked up one of my Matchbox versions (I've done several of the two kits in the same markings) and chucked some blue paint on the spinner.
My thoughts? It might not be right, but it does actually look better....
So, here is the Heller version....
Again, another lovely Heller kit, and this time the decals were spot on. Instead of using the vacform canopies, I found a spare Mk.V windshield and a Mk.22 canopy and PVA'd them into place.
So, the Kurfurst is up next...

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

It goes together pretty easily - not had any problems to report, anyway.

Re: Daz's Dogfight Double
This little beast has seen rapid progress in the past 24hrs - decals are going on, the stand is made, and the end is pretty much in sight!
I do, however, have a slight confession, and that is that I may have added a little artistic licence to the model. The box art shows a dark green fuselage band in front of the tail, yet the painting diagram does not. In fact, the diagram gives three options for the paint schemes, and not a fuselage band to be seen among them!
So, what to do?
If anyone remembers the Arii Bf109G-6 that I built a while back in a semi-spurious Defence of the Reich scheme, it was based on the markings worn by the much-lamented Old Flying Machine Company's Hispano Buchon. This example had a red and blue band around the fuselage, and I always thought that it looked pretty fetching.
So, it went on the '109K!

And she is.... DONE!
No problems to report - save for the tail band fiasco! The kit is one of the few German aircraft I've seen come with swastikas actually with the decal sheet (albeit in two parts each). The paint scheme is largely from the kit, but the colours are from the OFMC Buchon, the brown colour being rust rather than the reddish brown applied to the Arii '109.
Still, there she is!
