Greg's Chipmunk. ** FINISHED**

Post by Gregers »

One Chipmunk in the early RAF colours. Will be OOB with a few improvements.

All the best

Hi Folks.

Box shot of a still sealed Airfix Chipmunk box. Opening and hopefully start will be tomorrow (or rather later today, it's just after midnight).
Paint will probably be OOB unless I find something nice in my decal bank.

All the best.

Box scheme is very smart anyway. Provided the decals have aged well, I guess!

I'll find out tonight when I open it up. The seal is still on the box. I know I have a rather nice Mike Grant decal sheet for Chipmunks so I may use a scheme from that.

All the best.

Cheers for the offer. PM sent.
Off into the loft. With luck I'll get a bit of building time in tonight to make up for me missing the Newark show  .

All the best.

Work has started on the Chipmunk. Pics have been taken but my camera batteries are flat so I have stopped modelling so update pics can be taken and uploaded. I have had a sanding session with the rivets and done a little re-scribing. I used my scriber to open out the rear of the cowling. I totally hosed up trying to get the rib effect on the wings but that's an easy fix. I'll explain more when I get the pics done. I need to go to the Aeroventure Aircraft museum this week so hopefully I will get some walk round pics of their Chipmunk.

All the best.

Ok Folks. Pic time. Sorry for the delay.

Obligatory sprue shot

Bracing in rear of canopy and rough test of the instrument panels.

last pic taken, more has been done after this.

Enhancements include instrument panels, Rear cockpit canopy bracing, opening up the rear of the cowlings and re-scribing cowlings, Track in rear fuselage spine for canopy runner, dropping the flaps, Blade aerial and anti spin strakes on rear fuselage. 'stall'strips on inner leading edge. Slicing the canopy so it can be posed open.
I've decided to do it in the OOB red and white scheme.

All the best.

A little late but here are the promised pics.

All in all an enjoyable build and the best effort I have ever done with the Airfix Chipmunk. Given more time I would have done a better job though, including scribing the wing ribs where they have fabric covering. Also adding internal structure to the cockpit sides.

All the best.

Greg

Tell me about it. After three attempts and red paint leaking under the tape on each one I gave up and hand painted it . touch up's will be done at a later time
