Arc's Airco DH.2

Post by Arcwelder »

Place holder for now, as I'm trying to get at least one of the WW GB subjects finished.. and imageshack is still playing up, so sprue photos when that's resolved..

It's the Eduard 1/48 Weekend (ha!) Edition and it's utterly lovely.

Sweet. Looking forward to seeing this one. Have you got that trained spider ready?

All the best.

Heh. Lucky it was a wet summer, there's oodles of spiders available right now. Tee Bee Aitch, the rigging isn't ludicrously complex, it's just there's so damn much of it  ! Follow Tim West's rigging diagram very very carefully and I should be OK..

..and here's the pictures. The box is long gone, this has been in a freezer bag in stashland for years.

Nice fine detail on the nacelle, inside and out.

Some fragile bits..

Nice small sprue gates, though.. fortunately

Image

There are parts to make early and late versions, although as this is the Weekend Edition it's only got decals for the four-blade version (and no PE, naturally)

It's going to be a challenging but fun build, as all the reviews I've read gush about this kit.

Bit of a minor back-set where a strange reaction happened somewhere between the Tamiya paint, thinned oils and clear gloss, leading it to all break up and leave nasty residue and patches. The Tamiya may not have cured enough (those acrylics take a while to dry) .. this is on small interior wooden parts, so it's just put a slight delay on proceedings while I clean it off and start again (and using Citadel paints as he base colour this time, as I never have a problem with them).
More annoyingly, this also happened on the fuselage of the Albatros for the DD build so that's been cleaned off, too.. oh well.

That doesn't sound helpful!
I hope the re-paint is more successful
Best wishes

Thanks guys.. yeah, just a small hiccup in proceedings that's delaying getting the nacelle closed up so I can turn my attention to the *gulp* struts and *eeek* rigging

Thank you! Spending a fair amount of time on the interior detail because, unusually for a WWI plane, loads is going to be visible through the large opening in the nacelle. Plus Eduard went to the trouble of moulding all of it, of course!
Forgot to take pics before heading to work, but the control column, seat supports and seat are assembled and the painting of the interior moulded detail is about done. I'll (hopefully) get a chance to get some snaps and then close 'er up later, after I make a big Korean meal for friends..

Now closing the nacelle, which is fiddly due to the various bulkeads/bars etc
