Really struggling with extending the rear end. Don't really have any tube the right size. However I'm trying to make a back end out of bass wood so will let you know (if anyone is still interested!!) how it goes.

Good luck with that. Although I have no objection to using wood in a model, wood seems to have a strong objection to being used by me!!!

I know what you mean, this is the third attempt!!.
(I also find it easier now that I use Bass Wood rather than Balsa (although nothing wrong with that), Bass Wood has a tighter grain than Soft Balsa but is easier to use than hard Balsa and makes less mess than both!!).

Hi, will try and get some pics up soon although there's not much change in her appearance. Have sanded the rear end part to plan shape, just need to work on the top/underside and the many contours of the DH110/Sea Vixen fuselage. Also not sure whether to sand this second part before or after gluing to fuselage. If I do the former I run the risk of getting it wrong, ruining the part and having to do it all over again, if I do the latter I may break the wooden part off if I sand too hard!!. Might try and add some sort of a brace for the wooden part and sand after gluing.
More to come..!!

Thanks Iggie, for a moment I thought you were going to give me a genius idea and solve the problem!!. In other news I've also cut off the intake vanes as they are a bit thick in width, about six inches in 1/72 scale. Pretty sure they're not supposed to be that thick, makes them about 3 1/2 feet wide in 1:1 scale (If my maths is good!!). Going to replace them when the body is together. Once that's done (the boom work is nearly over) it should hopefully be more rapid progress.

Just a few pics to show progress. Not that much but getting there. Hope to finish in time!!.
New wooden rear end...

Adding some more to the underside as it seemed a bit shallow. Will have to remove most of this but it's better to come down to the needed rather than have to add more.

Break out the popcorn, this is worth watching. Great old school work there Mark, real modelling.

All the best.

Looks like I'm collecting quite an audience!, just don't throw the popcorn at me if it goes wrong or boring!!. :ha: But yes, a lot of actual making things, quite enjoying it actually but might push the limits of the deadline for the GB!!. It's this bit that is taking all of the time, I've done the tails and wings, once this is done it will hopefully be plain sailing!.

Progress so far is limited to the rear end, a lot of filler, sanding, shaping and repeat to get the shape right and smooth out the surface. Once this is done I may have a chance of finishing on time but won't rush it, not worth spoiling after all the effort getting the back end right.

I have done a little more to this since these pics. Nothing major to change the above really but it is again tidying up work. As with many aircraft with twin booms they may cause more work in the future. It isn't the lining up as they fit and align very well but the edges of the parts are not flush/flat with each other and will need more filler and sanding!!.

No throwing of popcorn here (I hate the stuff anyway ) Great work. Please don't rush and risk spoiling the build. Also I hope those Decals will be of use.

All the best.
