Ooh matron! :ha: :ha:.
Anyway, back ends aside, I plunged into the tail booms, a bit of sanding saw them fit even better than before and the horizontal tail was also attached. Still some filller and sanding needed but not too much hopefully.

I have only just picked up on this thread, all I can say is WOW great old school modelling.

As a young Naval Aircraft Mechanic back in the late 60's - early 70's I had the pleasure of working on the later FAW2's, so I have a soft spot for the Vixen. I didn't realise the DH101 was so drastically different from the later.

I had planned to try and build one of these, but having seen the amount of work required I think I will just sit back and enjoy your build and forget about mine.

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Thanks Splash, always good to have an experienced view!. I may have made this look harder by using a FAW.2 when a FAW.1 with the shorter tail booms on the wings would have been easier. Otherwise it's fairly easy!!, Except for working out how to make the back end the rest has been fairly painless. Apart from cutting my thumb!!.

Thanks Ronbow!, either I'm brave or mad. Or both!!. Anyway, a little more progress, wheels and doors are on, there is a small antennae, think the Americans call it a 'towel rail'!. I have scratch built that. Just the wings left now. Oh and the nose, had to put another 10 grams of weight under the cockpit floor as well as the already filled nose cone.

This is going to be a beauty I'm sure.

All the best.

I don't need props, I've put weight in the nose!! :ha: :ha: .
Thanks chaps, coming together now, bit of work to do leveling up the wing upper surfaces, the bit outside the boom is slightly lower than the the outer wing so lots of filler to go on. And sand. Etc...

I also bought some 7.1mm tube to make the engine exhausts although each is only 2mm long!!. It does add a better look to the ends than just wood.

ADDITIONAL: I've just noticed on the Menu for the GB's that this one finishes today. I think I will have to declare a DNF as I'm pretty sure it won't get done today, even if I work at it all day (which I could do). Had it in my head that we had till the 4th. D'oh.

She's done construction wise. Slapped a coat of Xtracolour High Speed Silver on last night, at least the top surfaces. Looks really good stuff, went on well but stinks to high heaven. Will try and get pics on tonight.
(P.S. I've had the Xtracolour for several years and can't even remember what I bought it for!!).

Here we are with the High Speed Silver on all over. I've done some areas in Humbrol 56 but they took hours to dry so not much more done.
