iggie's diminutive DH Too ***FINISHED***

Post by iggie »

During another (vain) search for the elusive lesser spotted (for 'lesser' read 'never'!) DH Dove amongst the stash I stumbled upon this:

And so I think I'll have a crack at this first for this GB.
It's two years younger than me.....what can possibly go wrong?
Best wishes

Nice. I have one of these in the stash. Will certainly be following this build.

All the best.

Another DH.2! It must be tiny in 1/72.
Is this your sanderling?.

Mate, you can never have too many biplanes! really looking forward to seeing how you get on with this. I'm very fond of the 60s Revell bipes, but yes, they're somewhat lacking in finesse! If you're interested, there's a splendid rigging guide by Tim West on Bob's Buckles. http://www.bobsbuckles.co.uk/dh.2-rigging-guide.html

Superb link! Thank you for that as it'll save me guessing from various pictures & illustrations :-D

No worries. It's (hopefully) going to save my bacon when the time comes to wire the wee beggar up!

Ok, we have some progress; wings drilled with a 0.silly mm diameter drill (actually three of them following a couple of breakages....), main struts glued into place with superglue and the upper and lower wings mated together. :-D
Using sewing in elastic (again of 0.silly mm diameter, less a bit for clearance) I have started rigging, after a brushed coat of olive green on the facing wing surfaces to make life easier at the end. I'm not being too fussy about coverage, as I figure the olive would have been applied over doped fabric and been a little patchy as a result on the original. The seat is a spare hurricane seat, cut down to represent the wicker type tub chairs used in WW1 aircraft. Needs a bit of a sanding from the picture

Awesome! I'm still waiting for the IP to dry enough to put on the instrument decals and you're already rigging! Looks fab thus far..

Sit Rep:
More 0.silly mm holes, threaded with yet more 0.silly mm elastic
Tail assembly added; this reminds more of kite building than modelling!
Some 'wood' paint on struts and 'fuselage'
Olive drab on tail empennage and main wing top and bottom sides
Silver paint added to elastic thread
