Andrew's Swedish Klemm *Finished*

In honor of all those ol' training aircraft - the home of many a foundering fledgling oblivious that while the IP was attempting to show a calm, reassuring demeanor, his hands, tightly clutched onto some aircraft part, were slowly tearing it to pieces .... Many of us have been there .... The GB runs 1 to 29 Nov, and your host is Old_Tonto.

A little bit of grey paint to check the seams. Pretty good in most places. The wing seams might need a bit of work.

Sand primer on the Klemm.

Image

Vallejo yellow, and orange paints need this to give good coverage. And there's a lot of orange to put down!

And here's the first coat of orange.

Two coats over the sand primer usually gives a nice finish.

I've used Vallejo Air Tank Green for the fuselage.

Image

Upper surfaces look good.

Image

One of the tailplanes fell off, but was easily glued back in place.

Image

But then! :omg

Image

Two huge chunks of paint came off with the masking tape. It came off a new roll of a generic green tape I get on eBay. The 2mm width stuff is very low tack, just like Tamiya tape. This new 10mm wide roll seems to have much stronger glue on it - sufficient to pull off the paint and acrylic primer in one piece.

Fortunately, it's all underneath :ha: so a reprime and respray will be easier.

After a second coat of orange on the damaged areas, the Klemm is ready for some undercarriage parts.

One of the kit undercarriage legs is short shot

New legs are being scratch built from some polystyrene rod.

That does look very nice. Good recovery on the peeling paint.

A late evening decal session

Image

The decals were very well behaved, if a little thick. The ski undercarriage has been primed, but needs painting green.
