Barry's TAV-8B Harrier Finished

In honor of all those ol' training aircraft - the home of many a foundering fledgling oblivious that while the IP was attempting to show a calm, reassuring demeanor, his hands, tightly clutched onto some aircraft part, were slowly tearing it to pieces .... Many of us have been there .... The GB runs 1 to 29 Nov, and your host is Old_Tonto.

Wow those seats are a massive improvement. Good idea to use them as plenty will be seen through that big canopy.
Love the camo by the way. Is that freehand?

Hi OT...I can't do freehand without getting a lot of overspray. This is done with paper masks, one section at a time.

Cockpit's taped over for painting so I haven't been able to check for fit yet Paul. I think height will be ok, but may have to shave the sides a little...

Well, I got this far an then the rear canopy went missing. I've scoured the floor, stripped my workbench, and sifted through the trash can. No canopy.

This kit was probably ok in 1989, but now, poor seats, lack of a separate speed brake, no serial number provided, raised panel lines, some errors in the instructions etc. took the fun out of it.

That's a shame about the canopy going AWOL; and after going to the trouble of buying and fitting after-market bang seats I don't suppose you want to make out the rear pilot has banged out!!
The rest looks pretty good though for an old codger (the kit , not you!)
Best wishes

Looks good otherwise, but I'm guessing you wouldn't recommend this kit.

Well...it has it's problems, but it's the only game in town, so... I'm working on a new rear canopy and my plan was always to pose the canopies open, so it should be able to pass.

Actually Iggie, I am and I do.

That looks terrific. Shame about the canopy and good luck replacing it.

Don't Airfix do a Harrier T10 too that could be made into a USMC machine? Or is that the same mould?

Right you are David. For some reason, I thought that the Airfix kit translated to a TAV8-A, but no, it's a TAV8-B and, according to Scalemates, is an Airfix original...not at all related to the Italeri .

From looking at it on line, I think it might be the better of the two kits since it offers the open speed brake option as well as the open nose wheel bay doors and it has been released as a USMC Harrier.

I think this is from PZL Los. Anyway, I cut it down to make a new rear canopy.

Brilliant job making a replacement canopy. I would never have known it wasn't the kit part.
