A little progress tonight. Filled in the few minor gaps there were, and got some paint on. Model Master Acryl Light Gray on the bottom and Vallejo U.S. Dark Green for the fuselage. What can be called whhel bays are painted with Models Master Green Zinc Chromate. Also, just assembled the cannon/rocket launcher assemblies for the wings.

Enjoy.

Very nice. Are the wing insignia lines decals, or painted?

The Mustang is on its feet now. Not much left to do now. Canopy still needs painting, and the prop needs to be installed. And as Gadfly pointed out, the prop is incorrect. You can make out in the last pic how the blades are canted forward. Not much can be done with it, so it will stay for now.

A little more done today. Canopy masked, painted and installed. I went with a base coat of black under the green. I'm debating about trying my hand at weathering. Never tried it before, so I need to start somewhere. I'd also like to try simulating some paint wear, chip and fading too.

Looking good

My advice on the weathering I'd start simple with some chipping with a silver gel pen and a filter wash of some well thinned enamel paint or oil in a brown colour. Very thin and apply in a thin coat with a big wide brush.
Add some chips to the wing root gun bay panels and cowl fasteners. Less is more...

Did some weathering to the Mustang. Dirtied up the underside, figured that's where most of it would show on the real thing. Light weathering on the top side for the gun ports and exhaust. I picked up some Tamiya Weathering Master to try. Worked pretty good. I'm calling this done.
