iggie's Suez Seahawk ***FINISHED***
Once I finish my DH2 in the De Havilland GB, battle will commence on the 1956 Suez version of this:
810 Squadron FAA HMS Albion

Re: iggie's Suez Seahawk
Its a nice kit just watch out for the join between the forward and rear fuselage.
And don't believe the decal instructions, they did not have the a/c serial numbers on the upper wing surfaces.

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Cheers Splash, I'll keep my eye out for the fuselage join.splash wrote:Its a nice kit just watch out for the join between the forward and rear fuselage.

For once I'd done some research on this kit and seen reference to the top-side serials already, but again thanks for the heads up.
I'm looking forward to this build after (nearly) completing my Revell DH2; I've gone off rigging for a bit!
Best wishes

Re: iggie's Suez Seahawk
Some progress shots; this is a couple of evenings work on her so far:
As predicted by Splash, the join between the rear fuselage and the main body was not the beast, but a little careful sanding has seen to it without any significant loss of detail
I've also added two coats of Humbrol acrylic 90 Sky to the undersides; masking and top side colour this evening with luck.
I have to sat that the canopy is crystal clear; you can read the instructions through it! However, the bang seat and grab handle are too high for the canopy to be closed so will have to be built open....

Re: iggie's Suez Seahawk
That's coming along quite nicely. Can't you remove the seat and file the bottom down?

That's a nice start and the cockpit detail looks to be very good. Is it a tail sitter btw?

Re: iggie's Suez Seahawk
Shangos, the seat is super-glued into place (I've always used cyno for cockpit interior pieces ever since I had a seat come loose in a model some years ago ) and won't be coming out ever!
Toby, I never even gave that a thought until you mentioned it ....I guess I'll find out the hard way! There is a little room in the nose wheel bay for a couple of grammes of lead if the worst happens

Re: iggie's Suez Seahawk
Ok it's official, she's a tail sitter of the first order!
I've shoved lead into the nose wheel bay and also inside the under wing fuel tanks and I think I may have got it sorted.....
As long as you promise not to breath on the tail

Re: iggie's Suez Seahawk
So far so good!
Two coats of Sky on the bottom, two of extra dark sea on top, and my first try out of white Tamiya tape for the curved bits; it does work but you have to really make sure you burnish it down well or it will lift on the inside curves
Oh, and I got brave and tried Shango's advice to remove the seat; it came out pretty easily actually ( ), I took most of the base off and flattened the grab handle down, and hey presto; a closed canopy (Edited for speeling mistooks)

Re: iggie's Suez Seahawk
Looking good Iggie, glad the seat was sorted. Plus I'm now forward when I dig my RN and German ones out.I've got some of that white tape, I found you have to be careful unrolling it otherwise you lose the straightness.
