Jeff's CD Schnellboot***Finished***

Any subject, any scale, just so long as it fits within the outer diameter of a CD (or DVD, or BlueRay). And some of those famous UAMF extra ninja brownie bonus points if you can match the CD/DVD with the subject of the build.

Jeff's CD Schnellboot***Finished***

Post by jssel »

It is here where the Bronco 1/350 scale S-100 Schnellboot will be coursing across the Channel.

The Kit:

Let me just say that is is small, tiny, microscopic. And it has a photo etch fret that is even smaller.

The initial base: Generic CD in the retro 45 rpm record style.

So roll on the start.

Maybe we should have done this GB on the mini-CD's :)

Well I am underway. I have decided to get the base out of the way first.

Supplies:

Image

I will mount the model on a section of Plastruct "water". That will go onto the CD and onto a lid from a peanut butter jar.

Steps:

Image

The lid received a coat of Rustoleum (textured) Pewter Gray spray paint.

Image

The "water base" was cut to match the diameter of the CD. It also received a coat of green paint to alter the surface color a bit.

Image

Checking the fit. The layers are now added using 5 minute epoxy glue.

Image

So it looks like this.

And the model will be "waterlined" like so. Edges of the base will be touched up with a black Sharpie pen.

That's a nice idea for the base. I like the peanut butter lid platform.

Good idea. I also started at the base, but don't like my idea in mockup so I have started Plan B.

The first five pieces are assembled and a dry run on the base. Fit is very nice.

Holidays have passed. Things settled down now. Grandson's Pinewood Derby Scout Car completed (http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=13081;) and back to full speed ahead on this little project.

Dark gray added to the decking. This will take a bit of back and forth brush work to get it right. And I envision dry brushed details at the end to bring it all out.

Pleasant morning tiding up some paint work. Ready to start working on the PE fret. 1/350th is not for me. But it is coming along. Suppose if I did a few more I would get more comfortable.
