Theme from The Sting - Airfix Scorpion *Finished*
I'm going to build the Airfix 1/76 Scorpion light tank.
Obviously the Scorpions come to mind for the choice of CD. They are a little bit too heavy for my taste, so I don't actually own any of their albums!
Cover art for the CD version of their first album from 1972. Some of their album covers are very definitely not suitable for the forum
I'll be updating the kit a bit, as it represents the very earliest Scorpions, and so I want to add the extra stowage which changes the shape of the vehicle quite a lot.
The front end needs new lights, the floatation screen has to go and the sides need building up. The turret also needs to be tweaked a bit. When I made this kit 40 years ago, I do remember that it wouldn't sit on the tracks properly, so this time, I'll add weight!

Two for two Andrew. I will be watching this one.

Yes, having seen, but not really understood, some of the music references on the forum, I was a bit nervous about this GB

Cool choice of model and tune (though it took me quite a while to get the Scorpion-Sting link).
The Scorpion was the first vehicle I ever fired, way back when....Then they realised that the fumes from the gun's firing were carcinogenic and it got scrapped.
There are some good pictures on the afvsociety website.

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

I was wondering why the Scorpy got scrapped, but not the Scimitar. Presumably the Rarden didn't have the same nasty side effects!Molly-new wrote:Cool choice of model and tune (though it took me quite a while to get the Scorpion-Sting link).

I think this was probably my favourite Airfix AFV kit, although I remember the tracks were very stiff and it wouldn't sit right. That was a blister pack one too. Interestingly, this blister pack has quite flexible plastic tracks in it. They are even almost the right length, just need a bit of gentle stretching.

Right ho ho ho!
One side of wheels put together. Very quick and easy to put together.
A sharp blade to remove the floatation screen in places where it will be visible.
I used the same technique to remove the headlight bar which is on the front lower hull piece.

Extra work for an hour gets most of the kit together.
The chassis needs towing points added. The deck and turret need extra storage bins building.

I'm enjoying this as I have one of these in the Airfix set with the NATO figures and Harrier.
