Marky's Battle in the Mutara Nebula. ***FINISHED***

Any subject, any scale, just so long as it fits within the outer diameter of a CD (or DVD, or BlueRay). And some of those famous UAMF extra ninja brownie bonus points if you can match the CD/DVD with the subject of the build.
Runs 20 Dec to 31 Jan, and your host is jRatz.

Thanks everyone. I have to own up again and say the weathering was more by accident than design but if it seems it was on purpose then I meant to do it!!.  Also, the decals that have the aztecing on are mostly clear aside from the aztec pattern so any 'weathering' you want to put on will be visible in some areas.
The Enterprise is about 5 inches long in this scale so not masses of detail but they are nice little kits that fit well. I've tidied up the 'DVD' base (acutally foam card as I didn't want to mess up the real DVD), as well as printing out the spot for the background. Getting there with the Reliant. She's built, just needs decals and my trademark weathering!!.

Just another quick update, Enterprise is done and in position. I've shortened the clear pole she perches on so her engines don't stick up past the DVD case top. Reliant painted and awaiting decals...

I think you are ok if you go above the case. Just can't go outside of the CD itself. In fact, you don't even have to use the case, just many of us are for either background or the CD cover.

Like the idea.

Thanks!, yes I'm just using the case to provide a base and holder for the disc and models too. Thought they might fall over!!.

Thanks chaps, fairly pleased with it so far. The scene was always a favourite as the two ships hunt each other, sort of a large game of Blind Man's Bluff (if that is the one where one person is blindfolded and has to search for the others?). Not 100% happy with the painted base/DVD/CD so might re-do that at some point in the future.

Put the first decal on the Reliant, the top of the 'saucer' has it's single decal on. Settled down nicely and with some Micro Sol which has been a massive help with the decals, particularly on the Enterprise.

Looking good. I agree with you about MicroSol. Over the last year I have returned to using MicroSol and MicroSet and also their clear finishes in place of Future/Klear for gloss and other matt and satin clearcoats. They just seem to work better for me than other products.

I am investigating copying your mounting idea for my MoonLiner - hope you don't mind.

No, mount away!, I don't think it's copyright-able!!. You can put MicroSol on before decals instead of varnish and it adds to the decal softening and moulding to shape part of using it.

Finished!!!. Not 100% happy in that the base is a bit basic and the need to avoid the orbital laser means the distance/perspective is condensed. Otherwise the models came out really well, despite the decals sometimes splitting when moved, they still stayed on the sheet and were quite moveable afterwards. They also look really good once in place.

Nice work Marky, Believe it or not, I've not seen the movie (or any of the Star Wars except the first one) but I do have a soft spot for the original tv series....and the base and backdrop are groovy enough to get a big thumbs up from this unrepentant Dark Star devotee :-D
