Fly Me to the Moon - BLAST OFF (I mean Finished)

Any subject, any scale, just so long as it fits within the outer diameter of a CD (or DVD, or BlueRay). And some of those famous UAMF extra ninja brownie bonus points if you can match the CD/DVD with the subject of the build.

Thanks.

I've got all the new decals on now and it looks pretty good BUT now I see I put the original hull stripe decals on too far up from the tail!!!!!! Compare my recent pic and the one of the DisneyLand original.

Your stripes are correct it was Disney who got it wrong :-D

On you bench you have a copy of Aviation News, is that an artical about Royal Naval Wessex helicopters in Norway?
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Sorry, Splash, it isn't. It's a cover photo only, no article, of an RAF Wessex at Mount Olympus, Cyprus. I dug the magazine out as a friend wanted the scale plans of the HP Marathon of all things!!!

As to the stripes: I like the way you think.

Nice save with the decals.

Since you are building a "working" version (you are still doing the take off thing right?) there obviously would be some differences from the display model Marketing gave to Disney.

That sounds like a horror film.....

WOW

Rightly or wrongly, I decided I had to take those incorrectly positioned stripes off the lower hull. I was going to use Solvaset to soften them when I remembered a tip I read years ago. So I rubbed down some masking tape on the decals, pulled it up and the decals came with it. Less than a minute and they are all off and no paint damage!!!

Moving on to applying my homemade replacements in a more correct position and get back to making the base.

So here it is with all the decals on. The lower hull stripes are still slightly higher than they should be but that's so they match the stripes that I also misplaced on the landing legs !!! (What a tale of goofing up my positioning of these stripes has been.) The stripes also do not lay properly on this double curved section of the hull so they look slightly off when examined closely but we're not going to examine them closely any more, are we?

Overall, I am pretty happy with it now. There's some minor touchups and then I need to paint the landing pads and supports and assemble the landing legs and do the base. I think I'll make it in time (fingers crossed).

Nice tip, I will have to try to remember that for future reference.

Good to see that you are still progressing with this one, it seems to have fought you all the way but I reckon you are winning.

So last night I reglazed the cockpit and did the portholes all with white glue. Today I tested that the legs all fit within the diameter of a CD to ensure compliance without the aid of the infamous laser.

I'm now on to final assembly but photobucket is down so no pics until it recovers.

It's actually finished but I still can't post the pics.

Very frustrating when I actually finished a GB entry before the last day!!!

First some proof that it really does fit on a CD - just.

I had to shave a tiny bit off the end of the jacks that push out the landing legs. So no laser surgery needed after all!
