White Man In Hammersmith Palais *He's Arrived*
Sorry for the late start but there has been some unpleasantness around Casa del Clash of late. As the wife was working early evening on Tuesday the 22nd, someone thought they would break into, and try to steal her car leaving us with one broken door lock, a broken ignition barrel, and a $450 excess to start the repair process. This also leaves us one vehicle down for about a week Then the household was hit by a bout of gastroenteritis which struck each of us at two day intervals leaving the patient vomiting and bed bound meaning the large family Christmas that was due to take place at our house, had to be cancelled and will need to be rescheduled at a later date. Good news is, that's a roast lunch and some more presents to look forward to Small problems compared to some others around the world I know, but, annoying none the less. Anyway, the build. The title is a Clash song that contains the line, "If Adolf Hitler flew in today, they'd send a limousine anyway", so here is Adolf Hitler in his limousine
And the sprues
And, about an hour later, the sub assemblies ready for some paint
I plan to put it on some kind of streetscape, and have perused a couple of shops for a cobbled roadway. No luck yet, but the search isn't over.

Re: White Man In Hammersmith Palais
Thank you gentlemen, here is what I have done so far. Couldn't find a cobbled street scene in paper or plastic, but got these instead
Obviously more akin for vertical walls, but will suffice for my needs. Glued my disc to the plastic, cut around the disc, and gave it a squirt of grey primer
Once dry I gave it a black wash
I'll give it more washes of varying colours and then dry brush in a mix of light and dark colours to hopefully look like a European cobbled street. I've also primed all the pieces for the Mercedes and they are drying as I type this.

I like the texture of your base that should work well.

I've just cycled down Barrack Street in Cork and it has cobbles that look just like that.

Some more progress, a de-constructed Mercedes
And a little science question, the paint used was just generic spray paints, grey primer, matt black and silver. While the paint has dried on the plastic parts ok, it's had two days in 30+ deg celsius, wet paint still comes off on my fingers from the toothpicks. Why is it so?

Just a guess, but could the porosity of the wooden toothpicks be a factor?

Re: White Man In Hammersmith Palais
It's the same issue as painting oil based paint on un-primed wood; the solvent soaks into the wood leaving the pigment on the surface without enough left to continue the hardening reaction.

Or paint neater, then none will get on the cocktail sticks

I love the concept that you have to use primmer so that the primmer on top of the primmer will work.
Did you use primmer from a rattle can? if so did you shake the can fully before use?
If not fully shaken you might get inconsistent results like you mentioned.

Thanks for the science lesson guys, all very good and valid reasons I think. So, where am I up to?
Gave the base a couple of washes, just needs some dry brushing
And a box of pieces ready to assemble. The flesh has been added to the figures
Added a piece of plastic taken from the box of Christmas crackers to make the windscreen glass
Hang Onto Yourself
