...waiting in the sky ***FINISHED***

Any subject, any scale, just so long as it fits within the outer diameter of a CD (or DVD, or BlueRay). And some of those famous UAMF extra ninja brownie bonus points if you can match the CD/DVD with the subject of the build.

...waiting in the sky ***FINISHED***

Post by Purplethistle »

Hopefully I'll have time for this one, I have to order parts, probably Afrika Korps figures to get high lace booted legs.

Decided not to wait for ordered parts (was only getting them for the high-laced boots anyway, adding laces is no biggie!)
Parts are mainly Airfix Multipose German Infantry with 54mm 1776 Grenadier arms.

Cheers Iggie, scratchbuilding a 12 string acoustic is going to be the tricky bit methinks! Solid body guitars are just two layers of thick shiny card

Maybe a bit of trompe-l'œil may be the better option in this case? I suspect with your painting skills it would be a more effective way of portraying the sound box than actually creating one
Best wishes

This is great inspiration -- doing figure mods, heck just doing figures, is one of my weak points, but I have a project sitting here that demands I start to sort that out.

I have been yearning to do a rock and roll scene like the amazing ones you keep churning out, and I have to ask
...how do you do the guitars? Are they rescaled photocopies or....? Btw, David and Mick look incredible.

Cheers Gnome,

Thinking of doing Black Sabbath by any chance? :-D
It depends on the type of guitar, For Les Pauls and SGs I usually just scale down a 'full frontal' photo and use that as a template to cut the body shape from plasticard (2 or 3 layers) For necks I use sword scabbards from 54mm figures, sanded flat on one side with the photocopy of the frets pasted onto the flat side. Headstocks are usually 2 layers of shaped plasticard or sometimes a conveniently shaped bit of 54mm figures equipment. Knobs and buttons are usually made with 'salami sliced' 54mm bayonets or plastic rod. Bridges and tremolo arms are from short lengths of plastic rod. Pickups are from plasticard cut to shape and glued on to give depth.

If you are planning on doing the Sabs, I've already picked out the Airfix 1/32 Multipose German Infantry as the best base figures to use, particularly 'Sabotage' era Sabs when they seemed to favour high boots :-D

If you need any advice at all, feel free to ask anything.

Thanks. Very helpful and informative. They look fantastic. Not sure I will be tackling anything like that for a while. My modelbuilding mojo meter is at a seasonal low at present. And the bands I play in (and there are several, not exactly sure how many since many of them are on again/off again projects) sap my time, hearing and sanity. Much like this hobby :p.....ah well. Carry on! You are doing terrific work!
