Ok, for anyone still awake, further progress report:
Going at this a bit whatsit before elbow, as I'm doing the topsides painting first and will then tackle the black, white and silver undersides last
Dark Earth and Dark Green done, plus a dusting of aluminium on the rigging

Cheers chaps; I'm still really enjoying this build, partly the less than beautiful looks of the aircraft and partly because it being a gift there is that extra incentive to 'do a proper job' of it 8-)
There are several bits of PE that I would ordinarily have cheerfully left on the fret, but that have been dutifully used on this one :-D
So progress to last night:
Undercarriage fitted, undersides of wings painted (half black, half white) and a bit of touching up to the topside colours to neaten the leading edge demarcation, wind-shield and machine gun (including fore and back sights! ) fitted

I like it a lot. And great job on the flying wires: not easy in 1/72 (or ever)

And here we have the finished article:
Acrylic paints (Humbrol and Revell) with hairy stick application....final matt varnish (Windsor & Newton) overall.
Rigging wires from sewing-in elastic
I've not weathered it (yet) but might in the future
Very enjoyable build, and it seems to be a kit that rewards a bit of effort; my thanks indeed to my Secret Santa, and to Matt for organising everything!

Very smart work Iggie, especially the rigging.
Not familiar with the type, need to look it up.

Thanks chaps!

The varnish is an artists flat varnish, made by Windsor & newton and is acrylic so nice and easy brush cleaning and thinning (if required). It's full description is Galeria Mediums Matt Varnish 75ml. They do a gloss and satin too; all very easy to brush apply. Although I've yet to try airbrushing them, I can't see that it will be a problem

Here is a link to it for sale (other sites are available :-D ): https://www.craftyarts.co.uk/art-suppli ... Ai9K8P8HAQ
