Decals are going on. I really should sort some food out. I have placed the canopy temporarily in its spot to accentuate the lines of the Gnat. A very pretty little aeroplane from the drawing board of one of the greats, W. E. W Petter. He never designed a bad looking aeroplane. Never.

The trailing edge control surface markings are, rather annoyingly, oversize with respect to length. They need to be overlapped then trimmed. I have to touch the roundels up. I was. clumsily, applying them whilst talking on the phone to my sister. She sure knows how to choose her times. I think she is in cahoots with The Tall Vegetarian Wife. They have always got on like a house on fire. A burning house in which, gentle reader, I am trapped.

Greatest Outro ever? I think so.

But what do I know?

Also, Tina Weymouth. What is it with girls + bass guitars?

No idea. I actually taught Ginger Daughter to play bass, from the ground up starting from when she was 12 years old. Right from bare bones, through note choice, chord theory, jazz, even esoteric stuff like false harmonics and tapping. She's now a drummer.

An insanely good drummer. And I mean good to the ppint that I am extremely proud of her abilty. I've only ever been in the same room as one other drummer who can come even close. Imagine if Phil Taylor had long red hair and taught primary school English. That's kind of close to what she can do. But, she's a drummer all the same. I have failed. Catastrophically.

Girls with basses? Well ok, we have those too. One of those rare instances where the Hollywood movie (Dakota Fanning) version of the band is almost as good as the real band. But this is the real band. Because they were pretty cool, when you take time out and think about it.

The Tall Vegetarian Wife is on at least nodding terms with one of the Slits. As am I with Charlie Harper. Who is not and has never been in The Slits, but is in the Urban Dogs and was in The UK Subs. I didn't see him in a while. He always has that kind of grin on his face that only comes from… anyway.

Speaking of the Tall Vegetarian Wife, she has just spent such an unfeasibly long time on the phone to me that I now doubt I can finish this. I think I will forget the seats and do a cowboy.

I broke one of the main gear legs snipping it carelessly off the sprue. I will not finish this now. I maybe could, but I don't need the anxiety. I'm not going to repair stuff badly just to get done in time.

I have spent far too much time on luxury items, such as wearing gradually away the glare panel to reveal the orange beneath, than on actual construction. I remember seeing some very tired and very retired Gnats coming in at Cosford as instructional airframes and I have tried to represent how beaten to hell they looked at the end of their service life.

But it's all good. I didn't even touch a model in 3 years and I'm kind of happy with what I have.

It looks like a Gnat. It looks like a beat to hell Gnat, which is the only Gnat worth having. They were never supposed to be looked after. That was the whole point of the design.

I'll have another go with maybe a Typhoon 1B or something that actually fits. Feels good to be making a model again. For me, this is successful. I'm back in it. Didn't actually finish but i gave it my level best and that is progress. I think I'll do a Monogram 1/48 B-58 next. Yes I do have one. No I will not ever blitz it. Probably. Maybe.

It been great to watch you back at the bench and the forum. As to the Gnat you could always add the gear doors up, stick it on a pole and call it a gate guardian. Or just roll onto to next build. We'll all be here trying to distract you regardless.
