Now, I'm worried ....

That went entirely too smoothly. Nothing broken, all pretty well covered, straight waterline on both sides ....

Image

Of course, I'm going to have to get that tape off ....

Anyway, next step is to put the PE handrails on the superstructure, then the periscopes and masts.

Then probably spray the light grey and then figure out how to do the black deck, if at all - I'm not really sure how that should be done. If it is meant as camo from above it couldn't be full or it would run over onto the side view. I must look into this further.

OK, that didn't go well.

The handrails proved to me too much, after 90 minutes I had them all mangled. Part was the design of a delicately shaped part, the rest was due to me. So I punted on them and put on the periscopes and masts.

I was so frustrated I even let SWMBO drag me off .... grocery shopping ....

But upon return, our postie (down, Flak) brought me this ...

Anyway, off to the light grey paint room ....

Still looks the bees knees, John.

That esoteric kit is a vacform, right? They terrify me.. perhaps unwarrantedly.

After your blitz is completed, you'll have to show us whats found in that Esoteric baggie.
The submersible group coffin looks to be coming along just fine, bye-the-way.

Looking good. Do you have to unpack the shopping, or do you get away with leaving it in the car? I try this every week. Still had no success.

Is looking good John.

Since I prefer 72nd for pretty much everything I do have the Revell Gato and Moebius Skipjack in the stash. Someday.

I did build a 700 scale U-boat once, waterlined, for the Talk Like a Pirate Day build here or was it at Whatif? Now there are some models that can be blitzed.

That's always my fear with PE that small; it's so easy to crumple something beyond recovery.....still looking good though and very interesting build
Best wishes

My Schnellboot in 1/350 gave me the same fits, Press on. Looks good right now.

Almost done.

Image

The light grey went on, a couple different colors as it wasn't as light as I thought.
I failed to find anything definitive on the black deck and punted.
The masking tape came off without a glitch - no attached parts, etc.

The photo-etch props got sorta shaped right and attached and I found a tiny cone on the parts tree to go on the end of them which the instructions don't mention at all. I figure we're even for the handrail now.

Decals placed on the conning tower and the White Ensign is drying on a staff in the background.

So, almost done, with 4 hours to spare. I need to dullcote overall then run up the flag.

That'll happen sometime between not at 9pm and in around going to the club, which was not in our plans until SWMBO announced it a little while ago. Actually she said "The meal I just made has to sit for 24 hours before I cook it, I guess I should have started yesterday, huh ?" which makes me the bad guy somehow ...

Having briefly looked at the service history of these boats, the lack of a hand rail would not have been towards the top of my list of concerns.

Waiting 24 hours for dinner, on the other hand…

And done, in a leisurely manner, with a half-hour to spare.

Here's two quick pix to cover the completion and I'll do properly lighted pix for the record and make some final remarks tomorrow.
