VV gets the Hump! **DNF** :(

Post by VickersVandal »

"Camel?" gasped the colonel. "Have they brought up the Camel Corps?"
"That's right. That's why everyone's got the hump!"

In keeping with the maxim YCNHTMSC, I shall be attempting to blitz the Revell 1/72 Sopwith Camel and the Little Vandal will be joining me with the Academy Camel (in the same scale) that I gave him for Christmas. He has been dead keen to build his own "Biggles plane" :-D 8-)

I plan to start around 7 or 8am tomorrow, AEST.This gives me 24 hours before I have to focus all my efforts on rounding up all the lesser Vandals to get to church on time.

Blitzing a biplane is clearly not the action of a particularly sane man, but Arcwelder's Albatros blitz proved the feasibility. I will not, however, be mash-brewing any IPAs at the same time.....much as I would like to.....

Outstanding! I'll miss a chunk of the start but catch the (obviously) cool & controlled finish.
Is this your sanderling?.

Oh yes, the finish won't be a mad panicked scramble at all....

Right, well feeling a little groggy this morning after the 9pm Aliens screening followed by the adventure of getting back from the Sydney CBD by virtually-nonexistent-at-that-hour public transport, but I managed to dredge myself up at 7.

So....the kit.

It's the venerable 1/72 Revell Sopwith Camel.

Image

The box is long gone as I tend to consolidate kits to save stash space. The instructions appear to have vanished too. Now matter - not like it's fiendishly complex or anything.

So, at approx 7:50 AEST I am off:

Image

First, some wood colour in the internals. Nothing fancy. No point in adding ribs - they'd be invisible anyway.

Revell supplies no internals of course, so a quick scratchbuild produced a seat and IP from sheet styrene and a control stick from coated florist wire.

Image

A lick of paint and now the camera can show up my horrible job on the IP

Image

I've nearly sliced my finger open already, so I should probably do a Safety Dance just to be sure...

Copy that, Blue 2.

Fuselage closed up. I'm off to a meeting at church for an hour or two now. More progress when I get back.

Not entirely sure where the C at the end of You Can Never Have Too Many Spitfires came from, but anyway. Looks nice.

Now somebody has to do a YGBSM blitz. I don't think we had one of those yet.
Would ya like to learn to fly? Would ya? Would you like to see me try?

Good luck with you build, unfortunately due to the time difference, I will be snoozing my head off whilst you have all the fun.

Right, so we know a blitz is all about the quality quizzine, and it doesn't get much more quality than this...

Image

Yeah, that's right. That's how we do it around here. Oath.

So, a few minutes work after returning from my meeting produced this:

And now the Little Vandal is raring to go, so our second Camel comes into play:
